Hi Lud family, where is the magazine (Godey) at you are speaking of? JimJoeBob Dek623@aol.com wrote: FYI...everybody, we do have a picture of Miss Bertha Ludington Barnes on the MyFamily site. Ron, I am sorry that I confused you by not entering Col. Marvin Ludington's middle name of White. I don't think I mentioned Valpo but will double check. He is from my Ludington line. His line was Clyde Barnes, George W., Lafayette, ???. He was married to Valda Burton. He was attending law school on the 1930 census but I don't think he joined the military until the 1950's during the Korean Conflict. He died in Harrison County, Texas in 1971. My branch of the Lud tree has been so difficult to research so I was very pleased to find that newspaper article the other day and wanted to share it on the MyFamily site. Elaine

Poulson's American Daily Advertiser Philadelphia, PA - October 11, 1822 YELLOW FEVER EPIDEMIC IN NEW ORLEANS - very alarming - list of the number of deaths since September 4th - names include surnames Vaughan, Archibald, Luddington, Tuel, Loringe of Maryland, Panburn of NJ, Pittard of Baltimore, Gouzoy, Netten, Flournoy, more - page three - 5.5 column inches. Anyone know this Luddington. A copy of this newspaper on ebay 4 sale. Also on ebay is this booklet. Printed 1893 YOU ARE VIEWING A FINE EDITION OF GODEY'S, AMERICA'S FIRST MAGAZINE FROM NOVEMBER 1893. ASIDE FROM SOME WEAR ON THE OUTSIDE SPINE, THE BOOK IS IN REMARKABLE CONDITION FOR ITS AGE,
BUT ARE THEY TURNING OVER AT WHAT THEY SEE IN OUR WORLD?? I WISH THEY WOULD RISE UP AND TELL ME WHERE THOSE OHIO LUDS ARE BURIED. UNFORTUNATELY, SEVERAL OF THE QUAKER CEMETERIES WERE DESTROYED. AFTER I WIN THE WORLD SERIES, I WILL CONCENTRATE ON C.C. OHIO. DOTTIE

Thank Goodness they are staying where they were put!!
Hi, Ron, That is certainly reassuring. I hate it when people leave their original burial spots and wander around. They are hard enough to find before they are buried! LOL To be more serious, I did notice that a will of Marshall I. Ludington is filed in a library in Alachua County, Florida. I think that might be in Gainesville and the will may make interesting reading. Maybe, you will have an opportunity to check it out when you visit your friend there. Ludington, Marshall I. Elaine has indicated in her latest posted newspaper article to the Family site that Col Marvin Ludington was really Marvin W Ludington from the Valpo IN Luds. However the article refering to Col Ludington was written in 1954 when Marvin W was only 12 years old and not even old enough to be in the Army or Marines. I do not see another Marvin W Ludington who would fit the bill at this time. Ron
FYI... Mrs Arthur G Rotch was originally Helen Gillman Ludington, b 1882 in Lyme CT. She was a daughter of Chas H/Lewis/Col Henry Ludington, etc. Bertha Ludington Barnes was a daughter of Chas Barnes/Mary Ludington. Mary was a daughter of Nelson/Frederick/Col Henry Ludington. etc. They both came from "monied" Ludingtons in the WI and IL branches. Bertha married a man named Richard Smith who went down on the Titanic in 1912. She died a year later in Switzerland. Broken heart?? I have no info on the Ludd who died in 1822 in New Orleons LA. It's close to Halloween and the buried people, especially Luds, will be on the move from one burial site to another?? They do that to keep us Genelaogy buffs confused; and it seems to work!! LOL Ron
By a coincidence my friend in G'ville works at the library. I will have her do a look up and get back to me. I too tried Barb's suggested FREE site and found it interesting but had no more info that I already had. I also worked my way thru the gravesite list she sent and found that everybody was in the same place they were buried. Ron
Hello Barb, I got this twice I think and I have looked at the site.
