Its so sad that the world is in such sick shape. thanks for the hoax tip I guess it makes it really hard for people who are willing to pray for others that their time is wasted by sick people who can come up with things as this. I guess they need more prayers then they can imagine eh. I'm glad to hear from you. I know you must feel like I do that this weeks tempertures going up makes me feel like I will maybe survive, April has been such a hard month so far. I'm back in physical therpy and can't see how it helps when I am in worse pain and spasms after leaving there then before I started it. I hope Babs dad is ok and I'm sorry you are both not well to have more to deal with. I'm not sure yet when we will get home for a vist.It will be nice to see everyone down there. Thanks for writing, Barb _________________________________________________________________ Need a break? Find your escape route with Live Search Maps. http://maps.live.com/?icid=hmtag3
Dear all Luds; This one is still alive and well in Hilton Head. Some traveling (saw snow in Amsterdam recently), occasional doctor visits, bridge, book club(me), golf(husband). I certainly enjoy and note and sometimes copy any and ALL Lud e-mails as they come along..... particulary the eastern and/or New Haven area. I'm glad I saw all the Ludingtonville stuff before I 84 and I'm sorry that I somehow missed the Ludington memorial in Worcester,England when I was there; but I did walk (long ago) to the Anne Hathaway house (then a turn of the path outside of Stratford-on-Avon) where the Doomsday book lists an early clutch of Luddingtons. Cheers and appreciation to every Ludington, Nancy L. Hume ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Tip #1 - try searching individual sources, rather the broad general search. Also, I do exact spelling and try all the different spellings that I can think of that might happen because the recorder couldn't spell, and think how the name might look in the indexer couldn't read the writing. Suddington = Luddington, etc. I use wildcard searches a lot -- Lud*, etc. Tip #2 - on the census, you can search a town or county without putting in any name. It gives you the list of everyone and you can scan through and see if there is a name that might have been misread for the name you are searching. Tip #3 - try searching for first name only In other words, just keep tweaking that search engine anyway you can think of. Now, when you have found all you can off the Internet and don't seem to be coming up with anything new.... locate the nearest Family History Center near you and start ordering microfilm to look at. Go to familysearch.org and start looking in the Family History Catalog. The best searches are Keyword search and locality. Here is where you can start looking up original records of the indexes and transcriptions on line and begin to seriously document your database. Speaking of documentation -- go back over your first few generations and if you don't already have original records to document all your dates and places, start doing that through the microfilms. You will find that doing so will not only document your records, but you will find new information on you ancestors and families. Here's another thing you can do. You have heard of the indexing that the LDS are doing of the films in the granite mountain vault? They are scanning the images and indexers are typing the index which will eventually be link to the image and to put online. You can volunteer to index from your home computer at http://www.familysearchindexing.org/en/index.jsp Karen B. -----Original Message----- From: luddington-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:luddington-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Barbara Campbell Sent: Wednesday, April 18, 2007 8:49 PM To: LUDDINGTON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [LUDDINGTON] Searching Ancestry .com Hi has anyone found anything new in the free searching at Ancestry.com? Hi Paul...........I usually have a dictionery beside me when looking at wills as the damn lawyers seem to have a pechant for not saying anything in plain English. Then there is also the differnce in local names for certian things (lift vs elavator and lorry vs truck) and other facors. Not that I am aware of, However I have had some success with the local historians. They deal with these often and can decipher them easily. I did most of the work myself and then asked for them to help fill in blanks. Some also have old script sheets that show lettering from the time period. One such place is Vedder Library in Upstate NY. I picked up a sheet while I was there but would be hard pressed to find it now. I just checked 3 large files but can not put my hands on it. gchsvl@mhcable.com That is there e-mail address perhaps if you can find no further local assistance you can ask them to mail you a sheet (they charge for copies and postage but if you have a fax maybe they could fax it) What I have run across is that when double ss is written the first looks like a script s and at times when the s is at the end of sentence they drop down with it and it looks like a Z. Good luck and sorry I could not be more helpful Mary ----- Original Message ---- gchsvl@mhcable.com From: "Paul Luddington" <pluddington007@tiscali.co.uk> To: "Lud List" <Luddington-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 19, 2007 8:14 AM Subject: [LUDDINGTON] old Wills > Hi all > Would anyone know if there are any books/web sites the can help > with the deciphering of old wills??? > > Regards > Paul > > > -- > I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. > It has removed 254 spam emails to date. > Paying users do not have this message in their emails. > Get the free SPAMfighter here: http://www.spamfighter.com/len > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > LUDDINGTON-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Yes I got it OK. from Ancestry. Yep here he is with a slightly different b date, but I'm sure it's him. So Thomas and bro George both left fot the US about the same time and ended up in NY state only a few miles apart. George is up the Hudson R by 150 miles or so whilst Thos stays in Brooklyn. Both are tradespeople as one fixes shoes while the other fixes clothing. When I get home I will merge these two studies using my PAF as the FTM makes it almost impossible. ******************** NY City ship arrivals 1848 shows a George Luddington George Ludington Troy Ward 5, Rensselaer, NY 46 1823 England White Male, Jane Ludington Troy Ward 5, Rensselaer, NY 48 1821 England White Female 1860 census: NY, Rensselaer, Troy Ward 7 Leddington, Geo, 34, ENG, Shoemaker Jane,40,ENG Mary,15,NY Geo,11,NY Martin,5,NY Eliza I,2,NY 1870 census of Troy NY, George Luddington age 46, b England, Shoemaker, wife Jane, age 46-48?, housekeeper, b England.
