    3. Part 5 of Lucas family obits. Ruth Martin was the second wife of Thomas Martin Lucas whose obituary was submitted earlier. ********************************************************************************** Central City Republican, Central City, Nebraska - April 17, 1909 Obituary MRS. THOMAS LUCAS Ruth Martin was born in Green(SIC) County, Pennsylvania, Aug. 21, 1884(SIC) and died at Central City, Nebraska, April 9, 1909, being in her 65th year. She grew to womanhood in the neighborhood of her birth, and after completing the common school course, she pursued a course of study at Waynesburg College, graduating with honors. She was married Oct. 23, 1879, to Thomas Lucas, and to this union was born one son, Thomas M. Lucas. Mr. and Mrs. Lucas moved to Nebraska in September of 1885, and settled on the farm in Mead township, where they resided up to a few years ago, when they moved to the home on the college section where they have made their home since. While yet a girl in college, the deceased joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, but latter united with the M. E. church, to which body her husband also belonged. Her last illness was of about five weeks duration. For some time she had been suffering from heart trouble, but the end came rather suddenly last Friday evening. The funeral services were from the residence Sunday afternoon, being in charge of Rev. McKenzie, pastor of the M. E. Church, assisted by Rev. Bovard, pastor of the Presbyterian church. A squad of old soldiers acted as pall bearers, the husband of the deceased being a prominent member of the G. A. R. post. Internment was in the Merrick County cemetery. Mrs. Lucas is survived by her husband Thomas Lucas, and her son Thomas M. Lucas, Jr. Seven stepchildren also survive her and there are two sisters living in Pennsylvania. There was so much that was beautiful in the life of Mrs. Lucas, that those who had the rare pleasure of her of her(SIC) acquaintance will always treasure the memory of the richness and sweetness of her character. A woman of rare domestic virtues, fond of her family and kindly in her relationship with all those with whom she came into contact, she will be sadly missed and sincerely mourned by those who were numbered in the circle of her friends. -- Steven W.
