C. S. LUCAS ----------------------------------------------------- Lucinda Crawford was born in Carmichaels, Penn., October 23, 1836, and was therefore in her nineteenth(SIC) year at the time of her death. She was the fifth child of William and Elizabeth Crawford to whom eleven children were born, none of them now living. She was united in marriage to Charles Swan Lucas on February 25, 1862. Mr Lucas, a soldier of the Civil War, was at home on a furlough at the time. To this union were born two children, one daughter, Ella, Mrs. Charles Tidd, died recently at her home in Long Beach, Cal. Mr. and Mrs. Lucas spent the early part of their married life in and near Pittsburg, PA., In 1877 they moved to Central City and made a new home among the pioneers of Merrick County. Her husband died December 15, 1915, and since then she has spent a large part of her time with her children and grand children, although she she always spoke of Central City as her home. Mrs. Lucas joined the Presbyterian Church in early life, and became a member of the Presbyterian Church of Central City in 1882 which membership she retained until her death. She was ever faithful and regular attendant at the church services. In the nearly half century which she has spent as a resident of Central City her life has been its own testimony to her strong Christian character, her devotion to her husband, children, and home, and the deep and lasting friendships she has made. Her life among us is her eulogy, she needs not other. Mrs. Lucas passed away on Thursday morning, May 13th, at the home of her son, Wm. J. Lucas, in Omaha, death being due to heart failure.
