Seaching (desperately) for James LUCAS, b. NY abt 1839. James is my g-grandfather and is my biggest research problem. Family tradition has it that he was an orphan, born NY. Census records and death records uphold this. I first find him in Branch Co., MI, living with a family by the name of VanBlarcum - his age 21 (1860 census). He married Mary DEAN (no marriage record). I have a tintype of a young lady labeled "Sarah A. BROWN, sister of James LUCAS, b. 31st Jul 1831, and her son James W. BROWN b. 1 Jul 1854. Children of James and Mary (DEAN) LUCAS are: Velona Bell, b. 3 Aug 1862, m. MONTAGUE Lula Estella, b. 2 Jul 1868, m.
