    3. Dear List: I have finally accumulated enough info on my elusive Lucas' to share. Hope someone out there connects. Here goes: >From the January 11, 1945, Newark, Arkansas Journal. Harvey W. (Wesley) Lucas, 58, died at his home near Mt. Carmel Sunday. He is survived by his wife and seven children, one sister, Mrs. H.C. Overturf of Crawfordsville. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Mack's Chapel cemetery, conducted by Rev. J.M. Hughes (a Methodist preacher) of Newark. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Mayhan-Boultinghouse. Mayhan-Boultinghouse is now Jackson Funeral Home in Newark. Newark is in Independence County Arkansas. Batesville is the County seat. Children of Harvey Lucas and Alma "Bessie" nee Summers Lucas: note-Bessie was his second wife and he was much older than she. All children are still living except those who expired in infancy which I am not listing. Lula Mae Genevie Bonnie Pauline (my mother) Dorothy Bobby Joe Cecil Wayne Lucy Marietta "Dustye" raised as Overturf First wife Hattie ----they had three sons The sons lived with Harvey and Bessie. We assume Hattie died. Jim/James Harvey Tom They all moved to the St Louis area. Harvey's father- ukn Lucas m. Martha Ada Beatty Two children known: Harvey Wesley and Lula Belle Lucas Lula was raised by the Beatty's. We assume her mother died. Can anyone identify my unk Lucas greatgrandfather? I would love to know his name and any other details about him or his wife. I have quite a bit of info on the Beatty line. The Beatty's were prominent in Poinsett County Arkansas from 1883 to appx. 1937. Harvey, Bessie and children were in the Poinsett County area in 1937 when a horrible flood came. The flood destroyed everything. It is said that you could take a boat all the way to Memphis, TN (appx 50 miles). Grandma Bessie always said she "liked to never gathered her children up." They were rescued by boat and seperated. Three children ended up hospitalized. Geannie, Bonnie and Dustye. Dustye ultimately ended up with Carroll and Inez Overturf who raised her in Bakersfield, CA. She was not adopted, she just wasn't returned. If any of this sounds familiar, please write. My mothers birthday is 10-4 and I would like to present her with her family as a gift. She will be 66. Bessie died 3 yrs ago. Sincerely, Alma Luper
