All name spellings remain the same. Copied from pg. 113-114 John & Mary (Fry) Lucas Family Part 1 John Lucas, a hero of the American Revolution from Montgomery County, Virginia, married Mary, a sister of John Fry and daughter of George Fry of Tazewell County, Virginia. John and Mary Lucas settled on Big Creek (Sunfish Creek) in Logan County. John Lucas is mentioned as the first Baptist preacher in the county and is the ancestor of the large Lucas family of Lincoln and Logan Counties. John is a son of William and Elizabeth (Price) Lucas of Montgomery County, VA. Elizabeth was the daughter of Michael and Margaretha (Killen) Price of the same county. William Lucas was also a veteran of the Revolutionary War although his length of service was not sufficient to qualify him for a pension. Research into the history of this large family is far from being complete. Sources such as other family histories, family records, Ragland's History of Logan County, Hardesty's History of West Virginia Counties, birth records, cemetery records, and individual interviews have been consulted in preparing this manuscript. Census records annotated by various genealogical societies have been heavily relied upon. The publication deadline for this book precludes manuscript completion and verification of all of the data. The manuscript, therefore, is being submitted "as is." The author, on behalf of the entire Lucas "Family" sincerely hopes that even in its incomplete and unverified form, the manuscript will be a valuable aid to those who are interested in genealogy and find a Lucas in the family tree. 1.
