Hi folks. My family and I have moved, are settled, and I tracked down Annabell Kemp's LUCAS book. It's amazing how my garage is stacked 5 feet high with one small slice in the middle to walk and my wife and kids wanting certain things for the kitchen, bedrooms, etc and I go for the genealogy stuff. Anabell's LUCAS book lists only one Eli Lucas. On page 96 she comments on the grandson of Thomas Lucas first in America who is Charles b 1720, son of Charles the planter b 1693. I will copy exactly the entire page even though what Linda Hoelscher is looking for is on the third main paragraph. The first part is ending Charles, the planter's last three of his 9 children. - ---------------------------- c7--(54) Richard Lucas, b 29 July 1732 mar (1) Else ........, mar (2) Racharl Duvall. c8--(55) Sarah Lucas, b 12 Oct 1734 mar Capt Jesse Pigman, Sr. c9--(56) Samuel Lucas b 23 Nov 1736 mar Elizabeth Beall. c1--(49) Charles Lucas (Chas 2; Thos 1) b 1 July 1720 (Swan Hughes Bible; Cary's M.S.S. St Barnabas Chur Reg gives date as 1 July 1721) mar Elizabeth ........ It has been reported that all of the children of Charles and Elizabeth Evans Lucas migrated into Western Pa except this son Charles Lucas, Jr who remained in Md and located in Montgomery Co. (See Cary's M.S.S. in Md Hist Soc Baltimore.) Records show a Charles and William Lucas of Montgomery Co, Md took the Oath of Allegiance to Md during the Rev War on 1778. Both men were then over 18 yrs of age and both living on the same plantation or nearby, as both appeared before the same Magistrate, Oneas Campbell. Records do not show that either were property owners in that county in 1790. (See Hist of West Md vol 1 p 34.) The Lucas family of Wash Twp Belmont Co, O, claim as their ancestor, one Charles Lucas who fought in the Rev War for the State of Md where he was born. It may be that their ancestor Charles Lucas, Rev War soldier, was a son of Charles Lucas b 1720, but there is no confirmation of this. Eli Lucas son of Charles was b in Va 1796, mar in Belmont Co, O, Martha A. Barker. They had eleven children, and five of their sons served in the Civil War. Issue: D1--Wm. Lucas. D2--Chas Lucas, b circa 1750. The 1776 Census of Fred'k Co, Md lists a Charles Lucas age 29 (1747) wife Susanne age 26 and children as Nancy, age 4 yrs; Gamiana age 3 yrs; Richard age 2 yrs; Mary age 3 mos. Also at his home was Lindoes Lucas age 18 yrs (b 1758) also Michael Orne age 9 mos. ------------------------- My comments: The D1 and D2 children are that of Charles (49). And it's unfortunate that Ms. Kemp did not expand on some of the other Lucas families. I'm sure 500 pages on this family was enough for her. But where are all of her records? Were they passed down? Maybe the comment regarding Charles being in the Rev War could be a clue. Anyway, for what ever it's worth, enjoy. Eric A.
