    1. William LUCAS, Candle Maker
    2. Hello everybody, My name is Bill LUCAS. I am new to the net and this is my first posting to the list, though I have been researching for some time. I am happy to exchange info. Please bear with me if I don't get it right first time. I would like to find out what happened to my great grandfather, William LUCAS, candle maker, last heard of at 31, Guildford Road, Greenwich, Kent, in 1888, when his wife, Julia Mary Ann (nee HILL), was buried. I previously found him witnessing his daughter's wedding on 26th Dec 1883 at Glen Isla, Melbourne, Victoria AUS, and it is quite possible that he went back to Australia (or New Zealand) after his wife's death. In the early 1870s he was manager of the Thames Soap Works (Messrs Wilkie & Soames) East Greenwich, so he could well have done something like that abroad. He could well have married again, as he was only 52 in 1888. The daughter, Agnes Jane, known as 'Tottie', married William Thomas QUINTON, who died in Sydney in 1915, but was buried in Wellington, NZ. Their children Winifred, Bruce, Dorothy Julia and Una Marjorie were born at Launceston, Tasmania (1884), Bendigo, Victoria AUS (1887), Melbourne, Victoria (1893) and Wellington, NZ (1899) respectively. Any information would be gratefully received. Thanks, Bill (wjlucas@aol.com)
