    1. Re: Charles Lucas b1725 England?
    2. Hi Kathy! Looks like we are both searching for the same Charles Lucas. I descend from his son John Lucas who m. Polly Wilson. According to our family tradition (which is all it is at this point since I've not been able to prove any generations previous to John), Charles was the grandson of "our" Lucas immigrant. Charles was supposedly the first Lucas in the SW VA area. His wife Annie was reported to have been a school teacher from the NY or NJ area. I am at a loss as to where Charles was born - possibly the New Kent Co., VA area - or, if his wife was from NY - then maybe Charles was born in that area as well. Again, family tradition has it that Charles's father was John who was supposedly born 10 June 1692 (I have no idea where this date comes from except that all the descendants of John Lucas seem to have this date written in concrete), but nobody seems to know where that date came from. No name for John's wife has been given. John (b. 1692) was the son of the immigrant James Lucas (b. 1665 in England) who was married to Elinor. I was visiting a friend down in TN a few weeks ago and visited the library there (Blount Co., TN). I found a small book on Cawoods (my first encounter with a publication on that family) but found no connection to Annie mentioned in the book. I have longed to find a cousin who was interested in pondering these earlier generations of Lucases. Most of my cousins don't seem interested in the Lucases prior to their Revolutionary ancestor ("our" John was a Captain during the Rev. War.). Do you have any proof that Charles was the immigrant? Since I've had such a hard time tracing the early Lucases, I would love to know what put you on the trail of Charles being the immigrant. Which child of Charles and Annie do you descend from? I have 11 children listed for Charles and Annie, with more descendants listed for 6 of those children (John, William, Parker, Thomas, Randolph (or Randal), and Edward. Hope to hear from you again, soon! Leigh Blount

    3. Looking to bridge the Atlantic to Suffolk County, England and tie Thomas Lucas married Dorothy ___ in the 1660's(?). Thomas is the one listed in Anabell Kemp's "Lucas" genealogy (Chapter 5), published 1975, Hollywood, CA. He came to the colonies around the mid to later 1600's, but does not tie into any England Lucas's mentioned in Chapter 1. It is assumed that he came from the Suffolk Co Lucas line, by family tradition. However, there is nothing in the book that connects him to a particular line that goes back to the Solicitor General of the 1400's and then back to the Lucas of 1180. Can anyone help? Eric A. 3. Dear Lucas Researchers--I've been researching Lucases in Orange county, VT, attempting to establish the parentage of my 4th great grandmother Susannah Lucas, who married Moses Wallis of Vershire VT in 1793. In going through vital records in Middlesex VT, I've copied down all (or most) of the Lucases of Orange county who were born, married or died before about 1850, as well as a handful of others who caught my eye. I'm afraid it's a very selective list, but I hope it will be of use to some of you. I've arranged the list in three forms--by name; by date; and by 5 families, those of James, Thomas, Edmund, and two of James's sons, Benjamin and Thomas (the arrangement by family is fairly speculative). I'll send each list in a separate mailing. The first, alphabetical by name, follows. 2. Hello JA Lucas, I think we have corresponded before. You had asked if any of these Lucas's were from a certain county (I don't remember which one you mentioned). I responded with "not that I'm aware of, my relatives (Lucas side) were mostly from Sallis MS, in Attalla County". I think I also mentioned that my paternal grandfather's name was James Andrew Lucas, having the same initials as you. If you need further information, please let me know. Sincerely, James V. 3. Hello to All, Many of you may remember me as the founder of the Lucas Family Discussion Mailing List over a year ago. I pasted the list over to Terri Lucas due to my new venture back in October 1996, "The Lucas Genealogy Society". To date, the society has grown to over 25 members. For those of you that are new to the list and might not be aware of the society, let me explain a little about it. The society puts out a quarterly newsletter. In this newsletter, the following subjects are addressed: Letter from the Editor, New Members this Quarter, New Queries. And new to the next issue, "The Historic Corner". In the Historic Corner, I plan on including such things as copies of wills, deeds, and copies of historic Lucas houses and gravestones. I have placed on advertisement in the Everton's Genealogical Helper magazine, which turned a very good response. I plan on placing future ad's in this magazine to help boost membership. To join the Lucas Genealogy Society, send a $10.00 check or money order for one years membership. This includes 4 quarterly newsletters, and unlimited queries in the newsletter. Lucas Genealogy Society 419 Fayette Street Palmyra, NY 14522-1427 The next newsletter is due to be sent out as close to July 1st as possible. -- Erich S.
