    1. Re: LUCAS, william
    2. Hi Debby: I hope this is who I'm looking for. I have a William LUCAS who died in Hardin County, Kentucky in 1803. His first wife was my ancestor and, of course, we don't know her name. He married 2nd, a Mrs. Catherine DARLING in Jefferson County, Kentucky. He must have been born around 1750 or so because he would have been married to his first wife about 1768 or 1769 because Elizabeth was born about 1770 and her brother, Cornelius, was born 15 September 1771 and Nancy was born 1773. The other children were by his second marriage to Catherine DARLING....Abraham and John. I have seen several references to a William LUCAS in Orange County, Virginia and in old research papers, it always said William LUCAS was from Virginia. Wouldn't it be neat if we could "connect" these two guys together! What does your will say....what are the children's names? A lot of times, they used the same names over and over, as you know! My Elizabeth, daughter of William, married 1st a Lawrence JEWELL who died shortly after they were married. She married 2nd, my ancestor, James McMURTRY 8 April 1800 in Mercer County, Kentucky. Their son, William was born 20 February 1801; Nancy born 4 April 1804 and James born 21 October 1807. My ancestor, William McMURTRY married Ruth CHAMPION in Crawford County, Indiana 23 November 1826 and they eventually moved to Henderson, Knox County, Illinois where William was very active in everything....even was Lieutenant Governor under Governor French. So....what do you think? Maybe there are some others out there who can help us fill in the gaps, Debby!!!!! I sure hope so. This is getting exciting! Jan Lund

    1. LUCAS, william
    2. Hello, Looking forward to participating and hopefully finding connections in this list! Here is my tree: Sally Ferguson b 1793 d January 1875 Married Braddock Beasley. Her mother was Frances Lucas born about 1768 married to John Ferguson (Fargison) May 12, 1788. Her father was William Lucas from Orange County Virginia. Here my history is a little vague although I am getting closer! This first William was born in abt 1722 and was married to Mary. He was my GGGGGGgrandfather, and was purportedly an Indian fighter? His father was William Lucas married to Jean. This William died in 1758, I think. I have a copy of a will from "Orange County Wills" that lists his will and all of his children.. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? I would love any help. debby debby729@aol.com

    1. Re: LUCAS--VA?
    2. Hi, I don't have any information on any Lucases from VA but I am looking for information regarding a Lucas from VA, namely my GGGrandfather (James Wesley Lucas or Lucus). I have attached what I know about him (which is very little). The atch is a copy of the inquiry which I sent to the "Lucas Newsgroup" but I haven't received any responses with any leads yet. I would appreciate any information you may have encountered with anyone by this name. Kindest regards, James V. Lucas (JamesL1104@aol.com) Subj: James Wesley Lucas (Lucus) Sr./Jr. Date: 06/02/97 To: LUCAS-L@rootsweb.com Hi everyone. I am checking to see if anyone has any information concerning my GGGrandfather (James Wesley Lucas or Lucus, Sr.), born in VA (county unknown, date unknown), later moved to Holmes Co. MS, Married Esther J. Swinney (date unknown). There is very little known of him. I know more about his wife, Esther J. Swinney than I do of him. All I know is that in the 1900 Attala Co. MS census which lists James Wesley Lucas, Jr.(James Wesley Lucas Sr's Son), his wife Emma Hazeltine Turner and their children also mentions that James Wesley Lucas Jr's mom (Esther J. Swinney) was living with them at the time and she was 69 years old. That would put her date of birth at around 1831. The only mention of James Wesley Lucas, Sr is the part of the census where he (James Wesley Lucas, Jr.) was asked where was his father born? The answer given was "VA". I have looked and looked for a James Wesley Lucas, Sr. in "VA" records but since I'm not sure which county he was born in, it makes it real difficult. I have run across several "James Lucas's" in my research but I can't verify any of them as being the "James Wesley Lucas, Sr." that I'm looking for. Another aspect to this mystery is: it was rumored that James Wesley Lucas, Sr. fought in the "Civil War"; however, I can''t seem to find him listed in any of the Civil War records that I have researched (and there have been many). Everyone please check to see if you have or can find anything at all on James Wesley Lucas, Sr. I would guess his birth date as being somewhere around 183l (year of wife's birth) or maybe three or four years earlier. In that day and time, most of the husbands were quite a few years older than their wives. So, if you can't find anything on him, I guess the records don't exist. Thank You Very Much Sincerely, James V. Lucas (JamesL1104@aol.com)

    1. LUCAS--VA?
    2. I am researching my husband's line. I have come to a standstill and a mystery. The mystery concerns an ancestor by the name of Cullin LUCAS Ballenger Earp b. abt 1763 in VA. Cullin's siblings are William LUCAS Ballenger Earp and Cary LUCAS Ballenger Earp birthdates unknow. These children are named in the will of Edward Earp who died in Wake Co, North Carolina in 1784. In the original will they are named as his "natural children" and in a copy of the will, they are named as "his wife Susanna's children". In present day dictionaries, the word "natural" would mean illigitamate, but I do not know what it meant in the late 1700's. If they were his wife's children, she may have been married to a Ballenger in VA and then later married Edward Earp bringing the children with her. I am also surmising that since the children all carry the LUCAS name that it might have been Susanna's maiden name. I know that I am making alot assumtions, but at this point that is all I can do. Anyone who can help, please contact by e-mail and this forum. Thank you. Mary Ann Marshall cakemom102@aol.com

    2. I am new to this list, and know nothing about the LUCAS family of Virginia. My GGGG aunt, Martha Turner, married an Edmund[s] Lucas. Martha was born probably between 1752 and 1757 in the area which became Sussex. My guess is that the LUCAS family was from the same area, or from Brunswick. Edmunds Lucas may have been "Charles Edmunds Lucas." I would like to find out the parents/descendants of Edmunds Lucas. Lee Turner Lee_Turner@vapower.com

I entered the marriage information backwards. He married first 6Jun1812 Giles Co. VA Martha Webb and sometime between 1830 and 1834 he married Susannah Freily probably in Russell Co. VA. I have not found the marriage record yet. According to the "Sutton Law" vital records for the state of Kentucky on the births of Parker Lucas "Jr." and Susannah Lucas two youngest children Sarah and Josiah/Joseph, Susannah's maiden name was Freily. He married Martha Webb 6 June 1812. I show 8 children for that marriage: James Madison, Clementine, Miles K., Harriet D., George Adam, Elvira, Margaret Ann, and Martha. I currently have 5 children for Parker's "Jr." first family. Robert, Emanuel, unknown female, Willis and Aaron. I have not yet found the will of Parker Lucas "Jr.",or the deed where Parker "Jr's" heirs desposed of his property, so I cannot say for certain whos list is right, wrong or what need correcting. This is not the first time I have seen different children for this family. At least two explainations are possible. Improper linkage for the children or there was more than one Parker Lucas who was born around 1790 in Virginia. And the info for both men has been tied into one. I have found later case seems to happen more than rarely and it won't be the first time I have had to untangle linkage information. The only info I have that Parker Jr. is Parker Sr's son is oral tradition. I have Parker Lucas "Jr." in Russell Co. VA for the 1820 and 1830 Censi. Pike Co. KY for the 1840, Letcher Co. KY for 1850 and 1860, and Carter Co. KY for the 1870. Does this agree with your information? > >I'll be happy to share any information that I have on your line. 2. Hey Sandy! How great to find a new Lucas cousin (we're 4th cousins once removed) and even better - we both live in Roanoke!! I followed your descent down in my files and was thrilled that I already had you in there (I didn't have any marriage or children's data though - you were born 11 June 1943 - right?!?) Here's my descent: 1. Charles Lucas m. Kathleen Annie Kawood 2. John Lucas m. Polly Wilson 3. Wilson Lucas m. Mary Catherine Webb 4. Andrew Jackson Lucas m. Priscilla Altizer 5. Jennie Lind Lucas m. Marion Lee Shank 6. Carlos Daniel Shank m. Hilda Inez Lewis 7. Betty Lewis Shank m. David Strouse Blount, Jr. 8. Marian Leigh Blount - b. 14 Aug 1952 Your Andrew Jackson Lucas had me going in circles several years ago when I was trying to sort out the Lucases. I finally got them sorted a couple of years ago. I don't know if you are interested, but there is a reunion Aug 10 for the descendants of "my" Andrew Jackson Lucas in Terry's Fork. It will be the first one that I've missed in a while (have a 25 year reunion with some kids I went to school in Germany with that weekend). I know that you would be most welcome - a few Lucases not descended from A.J. attend as well. If you are interested, let me know & I will give you all the details. I've been working hard on John Lucas's wife Polly Wilson. All my Lucas cousins swear that she is the daughter of Samuel Wilson who was killed at Point Pleasant. This is not correct. That Samuel had a totally different family that I've discovered in Augusta County. Our Sam Wilson lived many more years and ended up down in TN c. 1803. Have you done any research on the Wilsons? There is a group of about 5 of us who are working on some documentation (we're still in discussion process at the present) for these Wilsons. If you're interested, I'll be happy to introduce you to the group. Meanwhile, do you have anything on the early Lucases that might help us discover the roots of Charles and Annie? Maybe one day we could sit down together with our files and compare some notes. I look forward to hearing from you again! Leigh Blount 1136 Winchester Ave. SW Roanoke, VA 24015 540-342-9625

    2. Good Morning Leigh, I really don't have much to go onas far as Charles LUCAS is concerned. I am still trying to sort it all out. According to the info sent to me I must be descended from Charles' son Parker. But I have no proof one way or the other. Please keep n touch with me because this is one cousin who would be very interested in knowing more about our ancestors. The information we need is out there we juust have to find it. I get impatient waiting for things and so far I am batting .000. I have sent e-mails to some people who have said they will send things back but so far no go. Sometimes I feel like they aren't as interested as I am. Keep in touch. I will let you know if I find out anything more. Kathy

    3. To my Fellow Lucas Searchers: In searching my James William LUCAS b. 1871 on 48 acres spanning both Shelby and Franklin Counties, KY, have found deeds (6 of them) all listing primarily his mother, Elizabeth Catherine (BEAN) Lucas, and referencing her husband, called at different times first, John LUCAS, then J.M. LUCAS. I believe this to be James William LUCAS' father James Milton LUCAS. Can anyone shed any light on this difference in naming from John (listed first), then J.M. listed from thereon out? Were the names interchangable or did she marry his brother? The only way I've even come this far was by a trip from AZ to Ky. Hopefully, I can do this a little simpler from here on out. Other names referenced in these deeds include RANKIN, PEMBERTON, SACRA, BEAN, McKEE. Perhaps also NATION. If anyone sees anything familiar, let me know, please. I'll certainly help you as well if I can. Judy Nordburg hootser@Cyberhighway.net

    2. Hello. I am doing research on the Lucas family as well. I seem to be at a dead end and thought you might be able to help. I am researching Benjamin Lucas who was living in the St. Augustine, FL in 1850. He was the sheriff there. He had one known daughter name Margaret. I would like to know if you have a Benjamin Lucas in your family Tree in the Florida area. or any Lucas in the Florida area. Thank you
