My father James Lockie Lucas was born 28 Aug 1896 in St. Marys Co. MD. His fathers name was James(don't know middle name). Rumour has it that he was killed in analtercation with a country store owner who refused my grandfather credit after the failure of my grandfathers tobacco crop. Buckman (June 12, 1855, Franklin, DeKalb Co., Illinois) Among his children of his first marriage was Riley Edward Lucas (b. 1855, d. ? in Illinois). Among the children of Lois Buckman's first marriage was Philette Mariah Buckman. Eber's son, Riley Edward, married Lois's daughter, Philette Mariah, and they had 2 sons and 3 daughters (or perhaps more). At any rate, Eber and his first wife had ca 11 kids; Lois and her first husband had ca 9 kids; Eber and Lois married and they had 5 more kids. I am out here....still looking for William LUCAS who died in 1803 in Hardin County, KY. Wife's name when he died was Catherine DARLING LUCAS. First wife's name unknown (of course, she's my ancestor!!!). More info as follows: William Lucas was married (1st) before 1770 to __________. He married (2nd) a widow, Mrs. Catherine DARLING in Jefferson County, KY. Family tradition is that he fought in American Revolution (same paperwork on McMurtry families). My ancestor, Elizabeth Lucas, first married a Lawrence Jewell. When he died in a few years, she remarried James McMurtry. Their son, William McMurtry was my ancestor. Other children of William LUCAS were Cornelius, Abraham, John, and Nancy. Nancy married William Cubbage and Cornelius married Sarah Phelps. Elizabeth Lucas McMurtry died in Fredonia, Hardin Co., KY and James and the rest of the family moved to Henderson, Knox County, Illinois. James and Elizabeth's son, William LUCAS married Ruth CHAMPION. William was Lieutenant Governor of Illinois under Governor Augustus French. Anybody recognize a familiar name? Is anyone still out there? I noticed just a few messages over the last couple of weeks and thought it kind of odd. Anyway, here is yet another void in my research... Sarah Ann Lucas born in Belmont Co, Ohio 1818 and married James Hughes of Pa (b ca 1812; d. 1852 without a will). They had one son, James Shephard b 25 Nov 1838, and three daughters, Virginia Paty, Angelia Mercy, Viola Viviana, and another child (m or f?) Justin. One story suggests Sarah's family owned a cigar factory near Belmont Co. Sarah had 6 brothers and sisters and their parents were William and Temperance Lucas who came to Belmont Co around 1810. William and Temperance died early on (ca 1824) and the children were put up for guardianship to Samual Lucas and John Pryor, Jr., all of this taking place in Belmont Co. I would like any information that might tell where Sarah's husband, James, came from in Pa. Were there newspapers in Belmont Co in the 1830's? Maybe a Lucas still living in Ohio who is related. Is anyone familiar with what records are available in Ohio to see if James and Sarah owned any land?
