I am researching three brothers Edward, Thomas and Rees Lucas who appear in the Llangurig, Montgomeryshire, Wales parish about 1680. I do not know where they came from. Does anyone have any information which might be useful? Does anyone know if one locality is the root of the Lucas surname. I am aware the name means "son of Luke".

On 10/12/97 Lori Highland asked about Robert Lucas, the Ohio Governor. I was told along time ago that my wife was related to this Lucas family. Just about the time I started gathering info on him, I found info that proved my wife was related to the Lucas family that was published by Anabel Kemp back in 1964. Below are two of three items that I have on him. The third is buried somewhere in my records and I will post it when I can send a search party out to find it. The first is taken from Anabel Kemp's Lucas Family printed 1964, page 37. The paragraph is taken directly and is as follows: Edward Lucas migrated to Frederick Co, Md, where he stayed for a short time and then removed to Frederick Co, Va, where he took an active part in the Tuscarora Meeting of Friends, and was later a member of Hopewell M.M. of Friends. He had 17 children. His son Edward located near Shepherdtown, Berkeley Co, Va, and he is said to have been the ancestor of the three Lucas brothers, Samuel, Thomas, and Richard, who settled at Camp Cat Fish, just north of Gist's Point on the west side of the Monongahela River in what was then the northwest part of Augusta Co, Va. The descendants of these three brothers later located at Rice's Landing, Greene Co, Pa. (See Horn Papers.) His son William, Rev War soldier, who mar Susannah Barnes both d in Lucasville, Scioto Co, Ohio. He is the ancestor of Governor Robert Lucas who was Capt in the War of 1812 of the 19th Ohio Infantry and promoted in 1813 to Bridgadier General. He was the 9th Governor of the State of Ohio. He died in Iowa City, Iowa, Feb 7 1953. William Lucas' dau Susannah mar a Robert Buckles. She is not to be confused with Susannah Lucas dau of Thomas and Anne Keene Lucas who also mar in Berkeley Co, Va, a Robert Buckles. (Anabel did her homework!) The second item I found was a family group sheet I received from Accelerated Indexing in SLC, Utah many years ago. It was produced by Mrs. Herbert Hall, Calif, 1982 and is as follows: William Lucas Rev War b. 18 Jan 1743 Shepherdstown, Jefferson, Va (now WVa), d 2 July 1814 Lucasville, Scioto Co, Ohio m. 1767 Shepherdstown, Susannah Barnes, b 8 Oct 1745, England, d 4 May 1809 Lucasville, Ohio William's parents were Edward Lucas II and Mary Darke 12 children with at least 10 born in Shepherdstown: 1. Elizabeth b 14 Feb 1768 2. Mary b 17 Oct 1769 m (1) Thos Rugherford (2) Jacob Hite Manning 3. Joseph b 26 Oct 1771 m Hannah Humphrey 4. Susanna b 29 Nov 1773 m Robert Buckles 5. William b 29 Nov 1773 m Eliz. Tripp ?? 6. Samuel b 5 Sep 1775 m Sarah Carter 7. Rebecca b 17 Apr 1778 m Samuel Reed 8. Hi everyone, I am seeking information on Thomas Charles Lucas born 1828 in Tamworth, England. He died 5.8.1896 in St. Albans, Christchurch, New Zealand. Thomas married Harriet Ann Humphries 1.9.1851 in Dudley, England. Harriet was born born 1827 in Dudley, Herefordshire, England. Their family was: 1. Eliza Lucas born 1852 in Herefordshire, England. She died 12.8.1895 ?Napier New Zealand. Eliza married James Henry Taylor. They had a family of 5 children: Rose, Charles, Herbert, Violet and Harry. 2. Harriet Ann Lucas, born 1855 in Herefordshire. She died in Christchurch New Zealand 20.1.1930. Harriet first married James Good and had two children: Charles Edward Good, born about 1876 and Frederick James Good born about 1878. Her second marriage was to Samuel Wiliam Neate, they had a family of three, Arthur Frank Hterall Neate, Annie Contance Clara Neate and Winifred Ivy Neate. 3.
