    3. Hi, I have a Millicant LUCAS -m- John MORGAN b. Ireland ? I can only guess to her birth date or place, .. But I do know she had one son , named Lucas MORGAN b. 1805 Gloucestor NJ d. Minn ( Winona Co., Minn ?) and he married Elizabeth JACKSON b. Pa d. Minn (Winona Co., Minn?) They had the following children: Milton Teressa Isaac Cyrus Lydia Relland I believe all of their children were born in IN., and definitely know that their daughter, Teressa MORGAN was born in Rush Co., IN in 1832. "Uncle Benny Lucas, as he was known, was a native of the State of New Jersey; he removed thence to Kentucky, from there to Cincinnati, and finally to this State [Indiana] and county [Clinton] where he lived for 44 years. I have not yet been able to find where in New Jersey he was born nor who his parents were. I've tried looking for the "needle in the haystack" by going through Kentucky county records in the early 1800s to determine where in that state he and his family might have lived. I have him in the 1820 Census Records in Cincinnati, Ohio. Since he was born 1 May 1794 in New Jersey his age could have been anywhere from 1 to 26 years old up to the 1820 Census. At one, he was in Kentucky. Sorry I can't provide more information. You are welcome to a copy of my LUCAS GEDCOM if you think it might be of help. Jim Lucas, Arlington, VA

I have both these names in my tree and wondered if we are somehow connected. Below is short version of the line I am searching: I do not have a lot of information on this line. Descendants of BENNETT/BENEDICT/BENET LUCAS >> Olson, I part, below is what I had previously sent concerning my oldest identified LUCAS/COON ancestors. My Dad says we have relatives in Texas, but can't provide the connection. Let me know if you would like me to send a LUCAS GEDCOM. Jim Lucas, Arlington, VA My oldest LUCAS ancestor that I've been able to find is Benjamin LUCAS, my 3dggf. Benjamin was born 1 May 1794 somewhere in NJ. I have been unable to find his birth place or parents. I do know he migrated from NJ>KY>Cincinnati, OH and finally arriving in Clinton Co., IN about 1830/31. Along the way, he met and married my 3dggm Elizabeth COON who was born 8 Jan 1797 at Red Rock, Luzerne Co., PA. They met and married somewhere in the migration to Clinton Co., IN. I have not been able to determine where or when. Now to your question about William. Benjamin and Elizabeth had 11 children. Their second child was named William and he was born, according to what I've found, in 1819. If I had to venture a guess as to where William was born, I'd say somewhere during the migration, perhaps Northern Kentucky or Cincinnati, Ohio. From 1830/31 on most of my LUCASES lived and worked in the Clinton & Boone Co., IN area.

    3. Through my wife's job I've come into contact with lots of foreign officials visiting the US. Invariably they'll see or hear the name "Lucas" and ask if we are (insert ethnicity here). Besides German or English, I've been told that Lucases (including various spellings) live in most European, South American, some African, and even some Asian countries. So there seems to be a certain degree of ethnic ambiguity (in the modern sense) with the name--maybe that happened because it's a relatively old surname? I'm still looking for John Lucas: b. 3. Hi Marilyn, I have this wrote down in a note book from a local library some time ago. LUCAS. Midlands and Southwest (England)surname from Luke F. man from lucania, Greek(and Lacania is ? "marsh" Keltic,?light Latin?"White Greek),better represented by LUCAS;the third evangelist, beloved physician, and reputed limner of the Blessed Virgin. But also L,from Lucca, Italy?marshy place "Keltic"or from Luick(Luge),Belgium, another Keltic name,?peoples place. I copied this longhand but don't think I made any mistakes. I don't pretend to know what it all means but it would seem there could be two lines of LUCAS,both travelling down from Greece and Italy. Also remember reading somewhere that the Italian Lucca may have originated in Greece. They would of cause have settled in Germany on the way down, borders with Belgium. In all cases it seems LUCAS comes from place names. Can't make out the reference to the evangelist ect. Hope this helps. Barry in the sunny Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. Researching ancestors of LUCAS Thomas born 1854 in Newnham Northamptonshire. Bad luck story of the day. They resided in Corinth VT at least from the 1780s, when land records bearing his name occur. Their children, recorded in Corinth town records but not necessarily born there, were: Sarah, b Mar 30, 1768 Jennea, b 27 Nov 1769 Betty, b Feb 3, 1772 Susanna, b May 1, 1774, d 30 Jun 1846 (m Moses Wallis) Thomas, b May 18, 1776, d May 18 1853 (m Mehitabel, had dgtr Dorothy) Benjamin, b 1779 Molly, b April 22, 1782 James Lucas m 2nd Rebecca Huckins 20 Mar 1787 and had dgtr Rebecca. He died 8 Sept 1825 in Corinth VT. Since Corinth didn't exist in 1744 when he was born (it was founded in 1764), he had to have come there from elsewhere. Anyone with a loose James, born in 1744, probably somewhere in New England? Thanks, Michele
