Hello list! I am looking for ancestors and relatives of Jon LUKACS. Jon (1885-1962) was the first generation in the U.S. and changed the spelling of his name to LUCAS. Jon married Mary MATUSKA (1895-1957) also from Austria- Hungary. Jon and Mary lived in Mingo Jct., Ohio (Jefferson County) and were my paternal grandparents. They had six children: John, Mary, Andrew, George, Joseph, and Thomas. I don't know if anyone can help -- given the limited number of generations in the U.S. and the relatively recent spelling change; but I'm throwing this out just in case there is another "lurking LUCAS" from my line. I know that there were other LUKACS/LUCAS cousins who also came over from eastern Europe. If you're out there, please reply. PEACE!!! --Tom
Hello again, Henry LUCAS, my 6 X gt grandfather, born in 1644, baptised several children in Avening during the 1670s and 80s, his wife's name being given as Elizabeth. I have been unable to find the record of this marriage. Could it have taken place in the Newbury area of Berkshire, where he later sent his eldest son to be apprenticed to a weaver? There were certainly LUCASes in Newbury around that time. Could the family have come from there? Ever in hope, Bill (wjlucas@aol.com)

Hello again, Thomas LUCAS, my 3 X gt grandfather, married Jane WYMAN in Dursley in 1789. They settled in Minchinhampton, where his parents lived, and had four children (that I know of) : Ann (1790), Thomas (1791), William (my ancestor-1794) and George (1797). Thomas's parents died in 1798 and 1800. After that I lose sight of them, until Feb.1825, when William married his first wife, Sarah CARTER, at St Mary's, Newington SRY. His mother, Jane, is then recorded as dying at William's home in Union St, Lambeth, in Nov.1831. She was buried at St Mary's Lambeth. Can anyone help me fill in the gaps, e.g. where did the family go from Minchinhampton, and when did Thomas (senior) die, and where is he buried? Thanks, Bill (wjlucas@aol.com)
Hi, all. I'd be interested in any information about the Lucas family of Bucks County, PA, ca. 1680-1740, and its migration to what is now Berkeley County, West Virginia. I gather the move took place in the late 1730s. I've heard that the early Lucases were Quakers. If so, which meeting records I should consult to find out more about them? Any other useful sources I should know about? I'm also VERY eager to find out about connections between the Lucas family and family names BUCKLES, RONEMUS (various spellings), ENGLE, and COONTZ/KOONTZ/KUNTZ/COONS (etc.), the earlier the better. I know there were intermarriages, I just don't know exactly who or when. A few names and dates would go a long way toward helping me sort out the early history of my family in this country. Many thanks, Robert Coontz Waukesha, Wisconsin

Hello everybody, My name is Bill LUCAS. I am new to the net and this is my first posting to the list, though I have been researching for some time. I am happy to exchange info. Please bear with me if I don't get it right first time. I would like to find out what happened to my great grandfather, William LUCAS, candle maker, last heard of at 31, Guildford Road, Greenwich, Kent, in 1888, when his wife, Julia Mary Ann (nee HILL), was buried. I previously found him witnessing his daughter's wedding on 26th Dec 1883 at Glen Isla, Melbourne, Victoria AUS, and it is quite possible that he went back to Australia (or New Zealand) after his wife's death. In the early 1870s he was manager of the Thames Soap Works (Messrs Wilkie & Soames) East Greenwich, so he could well have done something like that abroad. He could well have married again, as he was only 52 in 1888. The daughter, Agnes Jane, known as 'Tottie', married William Thomas QUINTON, who died in Sydney in 1915, but was buried in Wellington, NZ. Their children Winifred, Bruce, Dorothy Julia and Una Marjorie were born at Launceston, Tasmania (1884), Bendigo, Victoria AUS (1887), Melbourne, Victoria (1893) and Wellington, NZ (1899) respectively. Any information would be gratefully received. Thanks, Bill (wjlucas@aol.com)
