I am surprised that no one has answered your query directly . Your Finlay Grant is to be foung on the Kingsborough Patent Rent Roll with Rent Due Date 25 Sept 1778 , which puts him in a grouping with my ancestors William Carr and his son in law David McEwan . Their Ship the Snow Brittanie left Scotland 1773 [probably with Finlay aboard] and put in at Dublin where my guys boarded . I agree that he is not likely directly related to the other Grant mentioned in this thread . Finlay Grant is found on the KRRNY muster roll , born 1736 , no wife's name given , but one son and daughter . That son would be John Grant , daughter unknown , and probably Lewis Grant is a son of Duncan Grant Sr . Finlay Grant drew the west half Lot 19 Front Charlottenburg which he exchanged for the east half of Lot 17 South Branch Road to be next his son John Grant who held west half of that Lot 17 . The trade was with the Heirs of Kenneth McKenzie , but since the trade took place while Patrick McNiff was making his 1786 Map , your Finley Grant appears nowhere on that McNiff's Map 1786 but a McKenzie name appears on both these Lots . This John Grant later had to go to court in 1800s to prove his ownership east half Lot 17 , which is still in the family today , and known as the Thornapple Tree .
