Hi, My indirect ancestor was Gabriel LOY, so I took note of your message re: biblical names. However, Gabriel was born ca. 1826 in Bavaria, according to the 1880 Fed. Census for Wisconsin. Where in Illinois is Effingham? Gabriel enlisted in the Civil War from Indianapolis or Evansville. Moved to WI after discharge. Doesn't seem to necessarily be a link here, but it was interesting to hear about the biblical names. Best Wishes, Beth Arnott. ----- Original Message ----- From: <jmlh@megsinet.com> To: <LOY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 29, 2002 8:40 AM Subject: [LOY] William P. Beth, Since the message was gatewayed from the message board, I think you'll have to reply to the message board for the poster to get your message. But as to where Effingham is, it's in southern Illinois. This is where my Loys came from, but I've never run across any of these Loys living there. In 1870 it was just my Loys and descendants of Matthias Loy, and an unknown Isaac Loy family from Ohio that I've yet to find ancestry on. Hello! Effingham is in central Illinois. Nat Geographic had an issue last year on the national road (c1840-50). It went west from general area of Uniontown, PA to Effingham and points west. Explains how the Loys got there. There still seems to be presence of the Loy surname in the area. Joanna
