    1. [LDR] Help with early 1830's marriage and births.
    2. Hello all, First I hope everyone is recovering from Sandy with no major issues. Living in S FL, I know how these storms upset everything. I'm Terry Littleton and I'm the admin of the LITTLETON@rootsweb.com message board and DNA project. I consider myself a pretty decent researcher with great computer skills (systems analyst all my working life) but I'M STUCK and need some local LDM help. Basic problem is I have a James and Martha LITTLETON who appear to be from the Worchester Co, MD area (see details below), were married there about 1823-1824 and had 3 children in MD before 1832 then moved to Ohio where they had 3 more children before arriving in Louisa Co, IA before the 1840 census. I cannot find who the parents of this James might be or any record of their marriage or childrens birth. I cannot find them in OHIO either. To make this more difficult, James and Martha died in IA with no death record (did find their tombstones) before the Civil War and all male children died during the Civil War and were buried where they died so no death records there either and none had children or surviving spouses. There also are letters in James Littletons probate file in IA from a Sally Lewis dated 1858, who was wife of John Lewis. Letters were from Worchester Co, MD and she calles James 'SON' and signs them 'your loving mother until death'. Definitely sounds like she is his mother, BUT she didn't marry John Lewis until after James Littleton was about 19. So I'm guessing she was his mother from a previous marriage to a LITTLETON. In these letters she goes into detail telling James about her Lewis children and those of the Thomas Littleton family. These Lewis and Littleton families all lived next to each other. I have lots of family info on these Worchester Co Littleton families but CANNOT find a Sally that had been married to a Littleton or an unaccounted for James. There is a Sally married to William Littleton but was still married to him when the letters were written. So I'm HOPING maybe someone can find a marriage record for James and Martha that might show her last name, OR birth records for the 3 children born in MD.
