Although I'm far away. I've gotten damage reports from my relatives in South Jersey -- pretty much directly in the storm's path but closer to the Delaware than the shore. No real damage, just soggy. It seems that the big damage, although intense, was in a relatively narrow band that could be adversely affected by the storm surge. It just so happens that NYC, Hoboken, etc. are in that band. As a hurricane/tropical storm, I don't think it came anywhere close to Carol in the 50s. I think the biggest change over the years on these "barrier islands" is that more and more people live there year-round. I hope something is being done about getting them help first, before dealing with the summer-only places.
