Norah- I just noticed your family surname list (overlooked it when I went on the Cooper tangent). Hastings, Calloways, Elliotts, Philllips, Records, Coopers & Lecates are well-known to me in the historical records of the immediate area. Gordy, Taylor, Hitch & Houston are more familiar in a contemporary context, i.e. people still alive or from my childhood. I really don't know of Byrds in the area and I honestly haven't seen the name Elgate before. Ruark, like Phillips, is widespread over Lower Delmarva, and even farther north.
