    3. Clare, Did you try the DAR records? You can have them search for free with their Patriot Index Lookup Service. If a DAR member has already proved service, you can use that info for the application. http://www.dar.org/natsociety/pi_lookup.cfm Eleanor **************** Clare wrote: Hi All, I truly need help for my son. Don't know how I can expect help if I don't supply the correct info. The following is correct. George Russell (b.1734, VA - d. 1782, VA) fought in the Rev. War. He was married to Sarah Bonwell. George Russell was the son of Solomon Russell. George Russell and Sarah Bonwell had: Robert Russell (1756-1832) and fought in the Rev. War. His 1st wife was Peggy Lewis, dau. of James Lewis and Peggy Bonwell. Robert's 2nd wife was Tabitha ??? b. ca 1800 according to the 1840 VA Census. I'm looking for proof that George and Robert fought in the Rev. War. That Robert Russell married Jane Rutherford. It says he was a sgt in the 5th & 9th VA Regiments. Sometimes it gets confusing when there are more than one soldier by the same name in the same state. Do you think that is what happened? where have you looked for information? I believe the SAR may have people who help finishing an application. They can search their own records and those of the DAR. DAR will not accept SAR applications, but the information on the SAR application should give you directions, in which to look for your documentation. Also contact a local DAR Chapter where you live, google DAR.org do not click on the members but on one that suits what you are looking for. Each DAR Chapter has a Registrar who will help you with your application. You must get into DAR through a Chapter and their Registrar. Inquire through your local DAR Chapter about becoming a member.
