Dear List, Probably like a lot of people on the list, my software entries are getting a little long in the tooth. I check Ancestry.com periodically and recently found something useful. They now have a "U.S. City Directories, 1821-1989," "Beta" on line. This is an enormous increase in their Directory coverage and for those with urban ancestors the collection is now really useful. Although the entries, if the same for year after year, can be mind numbingly boring -- they can also provide unique insight into exactly where the subjects lived and how their occupations were characterized over the years. I haven't really challenged the collection yet, but I know its got coverage down to cities the size of Jacksonville, FL.
