Roy, John, Looking over the description of names re: Pollitt to Polk, i have had a brickwall for year (although i will admit to ignoring work on it for easier tasks). On my Messick side of the family, i have Mary (or Leah) Polight/Polite (b. 1831 in Lewes, d. 12/5/82) married to George Riley Messick. Her father showed up in a search as Herman Polite (b. 1805). Nothing more. Could this be a variation of Pollitt or Pollett? *Frank, As near as I have determined, the Polite surname is NOT a variation of Pollitt. However, Pollitte is (mostly found in Kentucky).
