    3. Becky, Sorry, was trying to abbreviate: J.M.Runk, 2vols. Biographical and Genealogical History of the State of DE ....1899. Abstracted and indexed by the Reamys as Genealogical Abstracts from Biographical...2001. And, with chagrin, must revise what I wrote previously. Now, consulting Reamy p67: Peter Waples bought 1692-4 land on both sides of Indian River in Sussex Co. DE. He resided at Warwick and established a ferry under grant of Dutch goverment at NY 1692. He had sons: William, inherited lands on north side of River; Paul inherited lands on south side of River. Back to the map: place "Warwick" and Warwick Gut (beside *Pine *Point) on n side of Indian River across from "Piney Point Tract" on the south side. 3. There was no Dutch government at NY in 1692. The English took over the Dutch colony in 1664. The Dutch briefly regained their colony in 1673, but had to return it to England at the signing of the Treaty of Westminster in November 1674. I read elsewhere that Waples petitioned the Whorekill Court on 2 September 1692 for a license to keep a ferry across the Indian River near his house. The Whorekill (Hoorkill or Hoorenkill) was the old Dutch name for the place that is now Lewes, Delaware.
