    3. Joni, the Simontons in Maine were marriners, but Theophilus Simonton was definitely a farmer. They had indentured servants in PA. One servant ran away and the Simontons ran ads in the newspaper about him. When the Simontons, Thorntons and Allisons moved to NC, they were on the buffer edge between the established East coast and the Indians. Land was so much cheaper in NC than in PA. When they discovered they did not actually own the land in PA, I think they had heard about good land in NC, and moved there; instead of staying in PA and paying for the land again.
