For a history of the Delaware National Guard, I'd be interested in any references you might come across to the pre-revolutionary militia (1655-1776). Would like to know more about Swedish and Dutch colonists and Delaware colonists campaigning in the French and Indian War. Because they volunteered for extra training, and also because they volunteered to serve outside their own colony (the common militia could only be forced to serve if the enemy actually invaded the colony), these troops became known as Volunteer militia, or Volunteers. It was these troops who carried Delaware's colors ( in Pennsylvania regiments) in the five colonial campaigns against the French and Indians ‑ King William's War, Queen Anne's War, King George's War, the War of Jenkin's Ear and the French and Indian War. I'd be happy to accept the thinnest of shreds and the smallest of crumbs. Brig Gen (DE Ret) Kennard R.
