John, This may be akin to admitting my shortcomings on the old fashioned telephone party line. But in the hope that this may help someone else, here I go. 1. After entering my User ID and Password, I went to the left side of the page where two county names were displayed and chose Somerset County. 2. On that page, I chose the option "Search Land Record Indices, 1665 - 1995". That gave me a page listing six active indices. I chose the first one: "CE160 - COURT (Land Records, Index), 1665 - 1841. 3. That gave me a page indicating a reference to records of 1665 - 1841 divided into three segments of the alphabet. I chose O - Z and got my first "The page cannot be found". Noting the letters in red in the right hand corner which gave a choice of either "Next Page" or "Next 10 Pages", I tried that route and got "The page cannot be found" again. 4. I repeated this exercise with the other two segments of the alphabet. Occasionally, I did hit an image of text but it gave only a list of names and, of course, not with any names which I am following. 5. I repeated this effort with each of the other five indices and got variations of the same results. Please Comment, George Bacon In a message dated 12/9/2008 6:35:08 P.M. But yes, the original deed volumes are all at the Archives, as well as films thereof, as well as user-accessible computers from which you can access the mdlandrec and plats.net sites, etc. John *************************************** QUESTIONS about POSTING GUIDELINES, SUBSCRIBING or UNSUBSCRIBING? George, 1. I am surprised you only got two county names when I go to Md. land Rec. net I get a list of all the counties in Maryland 2. After choosing Somerset I also chose the option "Search Land Record Indices" and did the same thing you did 3. I also chose O-Z and since that begins the O names I begin putting in page numbers to get to the V names On page 302 I found the beginning of the V names 4. near the bottom of that page I found the first entry for William Vaughan and that one I couldn't locate easily but the second listing for William Vaughan on that page was book AZ page 5 so I went there and low and behold at the bottom of the page was the indenture between Wm Vaughan and his wife and Thomas Thurman [?] So I think your problem was after you got to the O-Z section you need to type in page 302 of the index and go from there Carol -------------------------------------------------- From: <GB415104@aol.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 09, 2008 8:09 PM To: <lower-delmarva-roots@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [LDR] Tract Names, William & Mary Vaughan > John, > > This may be akin to admitting my shortcomings on the old fashioned > telephone > party line.
