    1. [LDR] Crockett, Winder, Venables
    2. Thanks to the generosity and wisdom of a few Roots-Friends I have been able to add another generation to my family history, notably Joseph Venables Crockett who lived c1765-72/1822. He was the father of my gggrandmother, Harriet Crockett Hayman. I have a few more questions about his ancestry and some information to share: The assumption is that Joseph Venables Crockett was the gggrandson of the first Richard Crockett we know of in Somerset County, Richard (bc1643-d1706/1715 SOM); Generation 2=Richard (bc1676-WPJun1727-married Alice Shiles or Waller); Richard 3 (bc1708-WP1765 WORCESTER)m Elizabeth; William (bc1737-1772) m. Margaret; Joseph Venables Crockett (1765-1772/1822). This all seems generally agreed upon. I also found a marriage in Caroline County for Joseph Crockett and Rebecca Blades in 1790. Joseph Crockett's daughter Harriet Hayman named a daughter Rebecca (I have her two daughters' Death Certificates naming her as their mother). Could Rebecca Blades be Joseph Venables Crockett's wife? My questions of the above: Who was Joseph Venables? I found a Joseph Venables born in New Kent, VA c1671 who immigrated to Somerset and was involved in building (according to Torrence). I also have a source that says he married Elizabeth Winder (bc1668) the daughter of John Winder and Bridget Meador. If this Elizabeth Winder married Joseph Venables (Torrence says she did in the section under John Winder), could their daughter Elizabeth Venables, (b1690) be the Elizabeth who married Richard Crockett3 even though it would seem she was ten plus years older than him? Or could the dates be wrong? I have heard also that Richard3 married 1st Elizabeth Winder and 2nd Elizabeth Venables. That is possible as John Winder had three granddaughters named Elizabeth-two Winder and one Venables, although the two Winder have traceable husbands. Richard3 also moved up the Nanticoke into Sussex County so the marriage of his grandson Joseph Venables Crockett, who apparently inherited his sawmill, in Caroline County would not be unusual. The Venables family in New Kent is discussed in some detail at the following site which is where I found some information on Joseph Venables. _http://www.mcgrawonline.us/FamHistDarrell1.html_ (http://www.mcgrawonline.us/FamHistDarrell1.html) Is anyone else researching these lines?
