I have this Solomon listed as the son Of Solomon Townsend Sr. but I also have a note to myself that I am not certain if it is correct. In checking this history I am reminded that I found it strange that Solomon Sr. married Elizabeth Lofland and all his sons married ladies with the surname Lofland. Is that what you show? As time permits I will check my resources to see if I have made a mistake. Maybe someone on the list can set this straight. Gwen, Thanks for the reply. I did notice a number of Lofland/Loughlans tied to the family, and you are correct that marriages in successive generations would be unlikely. It seems that Jacob, the son of this Solomon, married a Lofland. However, I must say that my research in DE is probably less extensive than yours. I do not, for instance, have any clue about who this Solomon (d1775) married. Of his six children, William would be named for Solomon's father and Abigail would be named for a sister. "Abigail" persists for a few more generations. While I am checking, let me run this by you, too. I think Elizabeth Deputy's sister, Abigail, married John Clendaniel. Charles might have married Mary Clendaniel. Stephen married Elizabeth Wattson (second?). That's not much help. I guess the other thing is that the marriages I saw for various Solomon Townsends don't fit this scenario well timewise. I do know this Solomon Townsend is mine, however, because in the will and the codicil he names John Carlisle as the husband of his daughter Abigail. In Carlisle's estate, payment to John Chambers in New Jersey is announced under the heading of "Abigail." I have pictures of their headstones in a remote old Baptist cemetery by a guardrail with nothing else around for some a couple of miles. Do you know of a Baptist connection for any of these folks (Chance, Chambers, Carlisle, Townsend)? Anyone, please chime in.
