Hi Margaret, It has been some time since we last e-mailed. I do not know if Chuck moved to the Laurel area yet or not. When I had contact with him about 3 or 4 years ago he was still in College Park. I have not come across even one more thing on My John Hastings. I have found another Hastings, this time in my father's line. An Elizabeth Hastings 23 Mar 1803-20 May 1895 married William L. Gordy 1789-06 Jan 1876 ,son of Aron; son of Moses. Both Elizabeth and William are Buried: Gordy Farm, near Old State Rd. at junction of Rt. 451 & 68, Little Creek Hund,DE. So there is little to no information on John born 1755. Does anyone have any information on Elizabeth born 1803??? Thanks, Gwen ----- Original Message ----- From: "M. Leah Morris. Do you or any of your contacts have info yet on the family of John 1755? My Obadiah is estimated b. 1750. Obit of grandson Waitman 1819/1901, or some record , had an indefinite reference to "the father---" (whose?) coming from England. Of course they all had heritage in England. I thought, when I first began, that since Waitman was from Sussex Co., DE, someone must have come directly from Hastings in Sussex, England, but there are probably generations wandering hither and yon in between. Our family's hearsay is that Obd. was lost at sea. (A fisherman? --or did he travel back and forth to England? He is not seen after 1820 Sussex, DE census - • obit. in local papers? • probate? • Elaine Hastings Mason's (her anc. Elihu 1828 a brother of Waitman) records in the Laurel, DE, lib. must have some documentation in early 1700s? Elaine died in 2002, and in 2005 I transported most of those records from her home in Columbus, OH, to Chuck Swift in College Park, MD, for deposit in Laurel, DE lib. Chuck has since moved to the Laurel area, but I haven't heard from in ages. Obd.'s son James' will (1832 I believe) refers to my father Obediah. Others have him in some long descendency starting with a Joshua - but where's the documentation. I found a Maryland record showing death of an Obd. 1798 - who's he? --- I am in throes of moving to San Diego county from 65 mi. n. in Orange County and have to have cable for TV & internet. May lose all my Yahoo mail folders if they don't transfer to - note new addr. - <MargHH@gmail.com> . [ Much lost in transfer from cs.com. few years ago and AT&T, sbcglobal, and Yahoo (all under same umbrella) are cutting me off Nov. 15.] --- On Sat, 7/15/06, grwint@comcast.net <grwint@comcast.net> wrote: From: grwint@comcast.net <grwint@comcast.net> Subject: Re: [LDR] Hastings, desc. of James 1775 and Alafare m. 1815 To: mhastingshendrix@sbcglobal.net Date: Saturday, July 15, 2006, 11:41 PM Speaking of Hastings.... Does anyone have anything further on John Hastings 1755/1814 married to Leah Morris. They had a daughter Sarah 1796/1846 who married Joshua James Lambden. I do not have any thing on Johns ancestors, anything who be of help! Thanks! Gwen -------------- Original message -------------- From: "M. Hendrix" <mhastingshendrix@sbcglobal.net> > HI Judy ! The Ralphs were known to me from a later connection, as Wateman's youngest daughter Alafare Elizabeth Ellen HASTINGS, married a RALPH cousin who had gone from DE to Mercer County, Ohio to visit Wateman's family. We have deduced that Polly (diminutive for Mary) B. 1810 was a child of James' earlier marriage (not established to whom), for oldest son John was born 1805, as well as two or more girls b. bef 1815. Also on some list - don't have it in mind right now - both Mary and Maria are listed. (Maria b. after 1815 child of Alafare and James). > > I have some questions I'd like to ask - > > 1 - You said 'I just began searching this web site' - Which site did you > mean? [10-08 - It occurs to me that Waitman's oldest daughter, Nancy Jane Hastings HAINLINE, b. + or - 1850, had a daughter, Fanny, who married a BAKER. Fanny's husb. and one or more sons were pharmacists in Celina, Mercer Co., OH.
