    3. Elizabeth, About the date of birth and death records, there are always exceptions. I have a certified copy of my gg grandmother Mary Ann (Sorden) STUART'S death certificate. She died April 19, 1893 in Sussex Co., DE. It wasn't as complete as the current ones are, but listed her as a widow and died from diabetes. So it always pays to check with the hopes that one may be lucky. 3. I was just at the Delaware Public Archives Saturday ( my first visit) and looked at their marriage records card file index. The section I was searching was marked "after 1850." The cards had county, reference #, name of groom, name of bride, date of marriage, and source. I saw reference numbers of an orphans court proceeding which indicated there had been or was a marriage, (the one I saw had ante 1873 as the date of marriage, (meaning before 1873 when the orphans court proceeding occurred). On other cards I saw references to volumes of marriage records and licenses. One source said Bible notation and there was a reference number given. I don't know what to think of the reference number but I assume there were either microfilm or original records of the Bible notation at the Archives. Most of those that claimed a volume number as a reference, gave "return" as a source. In Maryland return means something similar to certificate; I am familiar with return of a birth in Md records. Unfortunately I didn't have time to actually follow-up on the reference numbers and see the orphans court proceeding, the Bible notation, or look at any of the marriage returns found in volumes. I guess that will mean another moderately lengthy trip for me. Maybe I will wait for the next conference.
