    2. I'd like to add my own invitation to the DCHS event on 6 and 13 Dec, which is also entered at their website (with prices not yet updated to those given below): http://www.dorchesterhistory.org/GenealogySeries.html This is the first time I've spoken (to an open public group, anyway) on the east side of the Bay Bridge in a few years, with a lot of new material on hand for the morning session on the 13th.  A lot of this should be informative for those who use (or would like to use) the plats.net and mdlandrec.net sites to best effect, and to "see" a variety of Lower Shore discoveries through products developed recently.  Thanks to the DCHS offering a full day on this topic, the opportunity to use the afternoon for personal interaction seemed ideal.  Our LDR friends John Polk and Mike Hitch have generously agreed to man additional PCs using my database for individual help, and we look forward to being available to anyone who'd like to play.  As the syllabus entry says, this sort of encounter is almost always a voyage of discovery for those with ancestors in that neck of the woods. 3. Thx John - As having seen the database in its early stages, I cannot express enough the value of this resource...both from a macro-historical level of the Old Somerset region and a micro-historical level at the family history perspective. I remember finding things in the old warrants/surveys/patents that were very personal like old ORIGINAL letters vouching for properties, depositions, references to neighbors and special property boundaries (trees, stones, cannon balls, etc) and landmarks, etc...and a lot of the humorous names for land plats! [The funniest of the latter IMO is the land that bordered MT PLEASANT of my 5x g-grandpa Benjamin Hitch called FAT ARSE QUARTER]. These records really bring a uniquely human perspective to what otherwise might be 'dry history' and provide a unique understanding of the local region and its inhabitants and how they lived 200-300+ years ago. And that was 6 years ago when I was involved - you have taken those records and worked tremendous amounts of hours to make them presentable and organized in such a way that everyone can benefit and you should be commended for same. What might have taken a 'layman genealogist' days, if not months, of digging to find in those original records (if, indeed, it could even be found), can now be accomplished in minutes. Heck, one of the greatest accomplishments in my estimation is just reading and translating the 17th and 18th century writing! Congrats and thank you for letting me participate in the workshop. Now, if you'd just write that book or publish the database in some form...I'd pay top $$$ for it knowing how valuable it truly is....! Thanks again and I hope to see/meet the folks on here at the workshop!
