The Maryland Historical society also! You probably can take a laptop into most facilities now. Many of them, like the MD archives will let you take notes only in pencil, which I find frustrating. I understand their reasoning, but it is harder write in pencil for a whole day! Another note about the archives is that they will search your bags and purses, and they require you to use a locker for most of your possessions. The woman in front of me was chastised for having a nail file in her purse, and I had a small pocket knife or something like that on my key chain, and the security officer was most insulting!
