    1. [LDR] Col. Edmund Scarborough - when did he start as a trader?
    2. Vickie Elam White
    3. On my quest to find the identity of Mary (---) Scarborough, I have a question - does anyone know when Col. Edmund began his trading activities? I know he handled his father's affairs in VA after his 1634 death, despite being a minor then. Evidently he didn't attend Caius College (or any college?) in England like so many of his relatives, so he probably wasn't in England for that reason. And, I would think that his brother, Sir Charles Scarborough, would have handled his father's affairs in England (if any loose probate ends needed tidying-up), so he probably didn't travel to England for that reason. He certainly may have visited for social reasons, and perhaps some business of his own. There does seem to be a gap in what we know about his activities in the late 1630s. So, thinking outside of the box, I am wondering if he met his wife Mary while on a trading mission in MD, New Amsterdam, or New England. She may even have been related to one of his Dutch partners or something. He does seem to have developed a network of Dutch trading associates. How did this come about? Mary called William Melling a "cousin" in a letter, and he was into the Dutch trade. Was the word "cousin" meant to convey a vague kinship, an actual "cousinship", or nephew as it often meant back then? Or is it a red herring? Has anyone else on the list looked into this? I appreciate any input. Vickie Elam White

    1. [LDR] Paul Thoroughgood of Sussex Co., DE
    2. Schroeder
    3. Is anyone on the list researching Paul Thoroughgood b. 5 Oct 1735 in Sussex Co., DE? I know his wife was named Elizabeth but I don't have a maiden name. I have the names of eight of his children mentioned in his will. I would like to know who his parents were. What was the relationship (if any) to Thomas Thoroughgood brought to this country by Edmond Scarburg ca 1664. Any help or leads would be appreciated. Jean
