My inclination is to believe that Capt./Col. John Henry actually moved to Dorchester in the late 1750s, when he probably settled on WESTON (though I haven’t checked Dorchester Deeds for his purchase date). In 1760 he held warrants in Dorchester which he applied to HENRYS ADDITION TO WESTON, surveyed for him on 29 Apr 1761 (see Dorchester Patented Certificate 1440), adjoining his part of WESTON. His Dorchester homesite was precisely pointed out from across the River in now-Wicomico in one 1769 Somerset survey: see Somerset Patented Certificate 1042, GREENFIELD, for Henry Steele of Dorchester, which describes its first bounder as “a cedar post on the east side of Nanticoke River, in the marsh near the side of the River, opposite the door of Col. John Henry's dwelling house”. This very site can be seen on the 1877 Eastern Shore atlas map of Drawbridge District in Dorchester, labled as “F[rancis] J[enkins] Henry’s” residence. John Henry had been Surveyor of Worcester from its creation in 1742 until at least1755, but there are a few surveys recorded for him up until 1760 - maybe just late filings. I therefore suspect that his son’s biographer was a little imprecise, and that Governor John was actually born in Worcester, where his dad was still busy. As to where Capt. John Henry lived in Worcester, it’s probably precisely discoverable by careful sifting of the various properties he owned. But it’s a messy question without deep digging. In 1734 John Henry was taxed on 100 ac of PHARSALIA, near Spring Hill in now-Wicomico, which had been in his father’s hands. Another inclination might be REHOBOTH on the Pocomoke, where his mother had lived. But he made big acquisitions elsewhere, and my next (and perhaps best) guess for his ultimate dwelling land would be the 1793 acre plantation SECURITY (Somerset Patented Certificate 2122), patented for him in 1744 over in Worcester, “on the SW side of St. Martins River, at the head of Duck Creek out of the River”. This one seems right for the landed gentry, and his brother Robert Jenkins Henry relinquished his interest in it to him by Wo Deeds C:204, in 1754.
