I've noticed in the Delmarva Region that the name Levin, has been used since the early 1700s and was wondering with whom the name Levin originated? There is a Levin Vaughan, Levin Smith, Levin Gale, Levin Dashiell, & others in the 1700s and 1800s and was wondering if anyone had any ideas about the name Levin and its use in the Delmarva peninsula. Thanks, Mike Hilton _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live™: Keep your life in sync. http://windowslive.com/explore?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_t1_allup_explore_012009
The name Levin appears in my early Dorchester County Bramble family along with the name Levi, which could be a shortened version. The Brambles were supposedly from England. dorera@bcctv.net Regards, Doris ----- Original Message ----- From: "mike hilton" <jmh963@hotmail.com> To: "mike hilton" <lower-delmarva-roots@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 16, 2009 10:15 PM Subject: [LDR] The Name LEVIN I've noticed in the Delmarva Region that the name Levin, has been used since the early 1700s and was wondering with whom the name Levin originated? Also found as Leven. One of my earliest is Levin "Levi" Baker abt 1725 in Accomack. Laban may also be a derivation. I have also pondered this, I know of 3 people who were named Levin Ellis in Sussex Co/ Little Creek area in the 1760 to 1795 period, and more that followed. I don't see the name earlier than this period.
