There are several candidate John Parsons or Persons in the Early Settlers index from the patents, but this one can’t be immediately identified. By the land and probate records, John Parsons (brother of Peter) left no children, as his LW&T mentions only nephews, the sons of Peter: A John Parsons was among the 50 headrights used by Richard Bennett of Virginia for his 2500 ac survey of BENNETTS ADVENTURE made on 07 Jun 1665 (see MD Patents 8:488). Bennett had acquired (bought) these rights variously from several parties, and there is no necessary reason to identify this John Parsons as the same seen over a decade later acquiring land in Somerset. On the other hand, BENNETTS ADVENTURE was at the mouth of Passerdyke Creek along the north side of Wicomico Creek (the border between modern Somerset and Wicomico counties, almost adjoining the properties below. On 19 Jul 1677 John Parsons had survey made for the 150 ac DENTRY (or DAINTRY), patented to him on 06 May 1679 (Patents 20:230). By So Deeds MA:932, on 20 Aug 1688 John Parsons sold it to Judith Brereton [daughter of William Brereton et ux. Sarah Brereton {of Wicomico)], for 3000 lb of tobacco. On 20 Jul 1677 John Parsons had survey made for the 50 ac CANTERBURY (Patents 20:189), which he shortly sold to Alexander Mitchell, who patented it on 06 May 1679. By So Deeds MA:482, on 10 Dec 1677 Samuel Smith of Little Wicomico, Northumberland Co, Virginia sold John Parsons (planter) 170 ac of the 300 ac SECOND CHOICE (Patents 19:315 + 21:033). This land was not specifically named in his LW&T (below), but in 1734 it was taxed for Robert Harris of Pocomoke Hundred. On 25 May 1689 John Parsons had survey made for the 100 ac BEARS QUARTER (Patents C #3:225 + WD:068), patented to him on 10 Nov 1695. By the LW&T of John Parsons (of Wicomico) – MD Wills 13:424 and So Wills EB9:014, made 18 May 1709, proved 01 Apr 1712 – all his lands went to his nephew John Parsons – evidently both the above tracts. Next, re Peter Parsons: By Patents 15:418-419 and 18:035, he transported himself into Somerset in 1672. By So Deeds MA:778, on 09 Mar 1685/6 Richard Stevens et ux. Abigail Stevens sold Peter Parsons 200 ac of the 800 ac GODDARDS FOLLY (Patents 19:566 + CB#3:284). On 13 Nov 1685 Peter Parsons had survey made on the 200 ac BACON QUARTER (Patents 22:233 + NS#2:269), patented on 01 Jun 1687 (actually after his death, following:) By the LW&T of Peter Parsons – MD Wills 4:246 and So Wills EB5:019, made 05 Nov 1686, and proved 28 Mar 1687 – he bequeathed his 200 ac dwelling plantation [evidently GODDARDS FOLLY] to eldest son Peter Parsons and 200 ac of "The Forest" [evidently = BACON QUARTER] to his second son John Parsons. So the sense is that all early Parsons in Somerset descend from Peter, not John.

John, Thank you the more detailed and annotated LW & T and Land Patent/Sale info. You pointed out one particular detail that had escaped my thought processes. The Patent for Bacon Quarter being dated 1685/6. All sources I have access to up to this point had this listed as 1668 ( a transcription error??), which if I went by his @ DOB of 1658, couldn't have been correct. I NEVER had put the two side by side in my brain. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! This fact puts into context more of the idea that Peter's Father (John) probably arrived into Northampton Co. in the timeframe of the 1653 date AND may have never Patented land in MD. I will go looking in Northampton. I am again amazed at the depth of your knowledge of all things LAND! The time and energy you have put into this work astounds me. I hope one day to be on the Shore when you give one of your presentations, so I can meet you and shake your hand.
