    3. I found in researching Leonard Jones, that a person named Edward Furlong, who in Somerset County, Md had donated a '"pied cow" to his wife Joan Jones, later patented a tract called Ape's Hole. I doubt there were any Apes in the Lower Delmarva but Ape's Hole is an interesting name for a tract of land. 2. Mike, what was the date on patenting Apes Hole? Truthfully,as a child, I loved going there because of the sense of peacefulness, wondered once in a while why it was named that...then lately, I've really been curious. My Dad used to shuck oysters there and told many tales (some of his folk stories are in the Library of Congress as well as retold in Folk Lore Books) about Apes Hole .  But even he never knew why it was named that.  One McCready/Nelson researcher said that all of "Crisfield" was known originally as Apes Hole which I had never heard before. I don't know if this name is still being used to designate a "stretch" of an area close to Apes Hole, but there is still a " Jonestown ". I always wondered about that.  Perhaps it was from this same Jones family? Close to Jonestown area was " Freedom town " and that name's origin, I assumed, was because many slaves got their "freedom" from slave owners in the area. And I can't resist asking you what is a "pied cow"? Thanks, Barbara ( researching McCready/Nelson/Benson/Huckans --- for starters) ----- Original Message ----- From: "mike hilton" <jmh963@hotmail.com> To: "mike hilton" <lower-delmarva-roots@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 29, 2009 2:36:19 PM GMT -08:00 US/Canada Pacific Subject: Re: [LDR] Wedgemussel Ridge?
