    1. Re: [LDR] Indian parentage...question
    2. They would have called them Red Indians when they were being polite. Unless you have a DNA record proving Native American descent, you may well be dealing merely with yet another unfounded and unprovable family fairy tale. I have a lot of those, primarily due to my great-aunt wishing to rewrite history. So, she left me very suspicious of anything without documentation. Have you done any research on the Starling family? Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: At this point it's still an unconfirmed family story, but "Bat" Twiford married Ann Starling (a full-blooded Indian), their daughter (apparently surnamed Twiford) married a Morris, and their daughter, Sarah (Sally) Twiford Morris, married Jonathan Cathell III around 1815 or so (I have some more info on this, but I don't have my notes handy). It would appear that the daughter and grand-daughter were named according to normal English conventions. I think the situation might be different if it had been an English woman marrying a native man. Just curious, but isn't the term "Native American" of rather recent origin? I wonder what term would have been used at the time? If in about 1750 if a white man married/lived with a Native American (Indian) and had children....and if his daughter had children, would his grandchildren take the mother's last name because she was considered Native American? If no one knows the answer, or if it varies according to tribe, could someone suggest a resource for me to check out? Thanks very much.
