Good Afternoon all; Thanks for the information that you have given me so far. I often thought that Mr. Gary was a Quaker as the name has that tone. We know that the Quakers were great in numbers in both Delaware and Pennsylvania, but had no idea that they were in great numbers here in Dorchester County. Does anyone know anything about a Quaker meetinghouse or the Quaker population in the Bucktown area? My educated guess is that it would be in the same area that Stephen Gary had the tract of land PORPEIGHAM. Is there somewhere I could find records of this? In 1655 Gary requested land on the Eastern Shore in return for transportation of himself and his wife and servants. By land rights he received "Spring Garden" at the head of the Little Choptank. In 1657 Gary transported John and Nicholas de la Valey and Mary Bull to the Eastern Shore, receiving in return a grant also at the head of the Little Choptank that came to be called "Spocott." Gary was active in the politics and defense of the lower Eastern Shore. His brother John Settled in the same area on 200 acres at "Cedar Point" on Fishing Creek, a location that in time would be owned by the Tubman family and would become a century later, the site of the first Catholic chapel in Dorchester County."...
