Possible that the will was challenged successfully, but one would then expect to find a notation of that somewhere. Very interesting. Elizabeth In a message dated 7/18/2010 9:35:06 A.M. 3. <It sounds from the Chancery Record that Isaac the executor is deceased and his son Lambert is now the heir of Nathaniel.  Isaac was supposed to sell and divide the estate after the death of the widow who has perhaps died by 1822.  Maybe that's what this chancery record is about?> Could be.  I've seen cases where the deceased is declared intestate with regard to a specific property.  It explained that at the time the deceased made the will, he did not yet own the property.  I also recall another one where the fellow devised everything but x amount of acres, so he was declared intestate for that portion of the estate. Isaac Bowen, the executor, was deceased by 21 June 1816 when Isaac Marshall was the administrator of his estate.  That same day, Marshall was administrator de bonis non of Nathaniel Bowen's estate.  These from V.L. Skinner, Jr.'s Worcester County Estate Docket abstracts. So either Nancy the widow was deceased by 1822 and/or the son Barnaby/Barnabas had come of age.  The actual record likely would reveal this. As Elizabeth noted, it is hard to tell when using abstracts.  Abstracts are wonderful tools but, as we all know, they should be used as pointers to the fact that a record exists so we can then look at the full record.  Without abstracts we would be doing as I did many years ago--paging through either original libers or microfilm (unindexed of course) in a loosely calculated time period just hoping to stumble upon the information for which I was looking.
