    3. Would like to pin point Pigg Pen Branch on a map. It is mentioned in Wor survey 15 Feb 1760 for Richard Murray, "Murray's Addition." I believe this tract was in DE after 1776, w of now Selbyville at the state line. Pig Penn Swamp is mentioned in David Murray's 1797 deed for "Cow's Quarter " and described as "Cow Quarter" 100A bought fr Dagworthy Jones for 60#--low ground NE of Pigpen (I think I have seen this as Pigeon) Swamp E of Pocomoke River near land surveyed for Erasmus Harrison. ( CQ pat 14 May 1760 by William Stevens MSA) My sense is that Cow Quarter was south of now Gumboro Rd (Cypress Swamp Rd) Another mystery: where is the Cow Quarter pat 14 May 1760 by John Mumford in Dryden--no description? -- Marjorie "Be glad of life because it gives you the chance to love and to work and to play and to look up at the stars."~ Henry Van Dyke

    2. By MURRAYS ADDITION, I take it you mean RICHARDS ADDITION (Wo Patented Cert 2156). It lay just south of the State line, touching U.S. 113 on its east. Its northern edge came close to what is shown as Morris Road when I look at Google Maps southwest of Selbyville. There's a little stream through there which would be (or have been called) Pig Pen Branch, of which RICHARDS ADDITION was "south". COW QUARTER, a Jehu (not John) Mumford survey, was Wo Patented Cert 649, on the "NE side of Pig Pen Swamp near an Erasmus Harrison survey" (which was HARRISONS OUTLET, Wo Cert 1219). Harrison's survey was also just south of the State line, on the west side of RICHARDS ADDITION. My sense years ago was that this description would place COW QUARTER south of the line, too, but that really isn't possible, so it must have been just above the line in Sussex, and thus "reasonably close enough" to conform to its assertion of being "near" Harrison's land. I'd say just north of RICHARDS ADDITION. Finally, your "William Stevens" reference is to the same COW QUARTER. Stevens held the warrant, which he assigned to Mumford. All these should be findable in plats.net, with all images in order. Just go to "Patented Certs" and find them by their cert numbers. 3. John, thank you for taking another look at this. Yes, I meant Richard's Addition (sigh!) I have been looking at too many Additions! Murray's Addition was the name of James Murray Jr's resurvey in PA of what had been Addition 50 acres pat Wo 1760 by him. Then in Shankland's DE resurvey of Murray's Addition it was called new Addition and ended up with 276-45 for 231 acres. I found in a later DE deed that the final Addition included Bush, 22 acres pat 1755 by James SR., father of Richard. I was speculating that Richard's Addition was part of this but if it lay in MD then it was not. Your revised placement of Cow Quarter jibes with my notion of where it was when I visited my great uncle's farm in the 1940s.
