    1. Re: [LDR] TAYLOR of Sharptown
    2. Somerset Orphans Court Records (Donald V. Heise) show that in 1834 John B. Taylor and Isaac Taylor were sureties for orphans of James Bennett (appointed guardian Elizabeth Bennett). Somerset Wills (Neil and Leslie Keddie), 1865 will of Isaac K. Wright, shows that he (Isaac) left land "Neighbor's Forewarning" adjoining the lands of John Wright, John B. Taylor, Richard P. Darby and Thomas B. Taylor. John B. Taylor also, in 1843 (Keddie) witnessed the will of Polly Cooper. Perhaps looking at some of these other people might lead you to your John. Also, many of the people around there seem to have wandered often back and forth to Little Creek Hundred, DE, where there were also a lot of Taylor families. In 1870 Mary Howarth was aged 55 in Potato Neck #253 with Riley S. 25 and Luther A. 21, sailors, in her household. When making a query, names would help. ________________________________ From: J. 2. I also have one of my DE Vincent's listed in a hotel in Accomack (I think 1860ish). He was a coach driver, and just happened to be there when the census taker passed through. They seem to have been a slap-happy bunch, not really caring if people actually resided in a particular place. Also, I think they were paid by the number of names they collected. 3. Roy, Re: I have come across a puzzling situation. I hope that some of you researching the Whaley-Carmean families might have a clue as to the solution. Here 'tis:... Looking at these census records, as well as the 1870 census, I would conclude Rachel was still living when the 1880 census was taken. She wouldn't be a post-1880 wife since we was called "mother in law" in the 1900 and 1910 censuses. Each record, including a census record, is just one additional piece of evidence. Census records are prone to error, especially since we don't know who provided the information or how the census taker recorded and/or interpreted the information. My particular favorite is an 1870 AL census where the census taken apparently just wrote down first initials. He eventually went back and filled in names - only he filled in any old name that fit with the first initial. Thus one of my families is recorded as Edith (rather than Elizabeth), Robert (for Rufus), Ellen (for Elizabeth Jr.), and James (for John)! Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving, Pam

    3. The 1783 tax records have a wealth of information. I would recommend the trip to Annapolis to see them on microfilm. The actual records have population counts, buildings, soil analysis, livestock, etc. The name Buckingham was likely a tract name. It is possible Worcester was also, even though it is the name of the county. Here is a link to the data that I pulled from the 1783 tax entries for the land that comprised East New Market. It should help you see what can be found in these 1783 tax records. http://www.collinsfactor.com/taxrecords/tax-list1783.htm Frank On Tue, Nov 20, 2012 at 7:18 PM, <tarantulac@aol.com> wrote: > > Hi all! > > I have been studying abstracts of the 1783 tax assessment lists in > Maryland, specifically Worcester County. 3. *I have come across a puzzling situation. I hope that some of you researching the Whaley-Carmean families might have a clue as to the solution. Here 'tis: 1880 Census - Sussex County DE -- Cyrus Carmean, age 50, is listed as a widower. 1900 Census - Sussex County DE } 1910 Census - Sussex County DE } Rachel Carmean, born c. 1819, is his widow. The only way Rachel could be Cyrus' widow is if he married her after the 1880 Census, but the Census pages of 1900/1910 seem to disprove that. I am puzzled. I have PDFs of the Census pages if anyone is interested ... just e-mail me and I will send them to you. rcp729@gmail.com Roy C Pollitt *
