In 1814 on Aug 30 there was a short but nasty encounter in Kent County between Royal Marines and sailors and the local militia comanded by Col Philip Reed. This year, last weekend in August, there is an "encampment" and play on the grounds of the nearby Inn at Mitchell House. Next year there will be a battle reenactment and assorted ceremonies. In the intervening time, I am looking for anyone who had an ancestor in the scrap. First, because it's interesting and second, because the local 1812 Bicentennial Committee and some others are looking to find as many tombstones from these militamen as we can. The following message will list the plain soldiers. To start, here are the officers who fought: Officers John Beck 2nd Lieutenant Morgan Brown Lieutenant Joseph Brown 1st Lieutenant Ezekiel F. Actually David, the scanners you find advertised on the web for this purpose do handle color negatives quite well, and are not expensive. The one I have is designed to scan 35 mm color slides. It gives a high resolution image with good color correction.
Thanks for letting us know about this very good program. Maybe we may also get some good tips from other researchers. If the negatives are black/white, you can do them yourself. 1. high quality copier/scanner machine, super clean white on bottom of the cover 2. Scanning program 3. Probably any photo shop could do it. I found some old slide negatives in my mother's things. They put these on a CD for me and I was able to view/print them. The quality wasn't that great, but I was able to see my mother in a party dress when she was quite young. The man she was with was not my father. LOL. She looked to be quite fond of him. And these were probably from the 40s. I had some others made from the 60s and they turned out quit well. HP and Epson both make excellent scanners that have the ability to scan negatives. If you have a large number of them this is definitely the way to go. The cheaper scanners from both companies generally scan no larger than 35mm, but each makes at least one (for about double the price) that will do up to 8 x 10 large format negatives. Since my dad was a photographer he had a lot of 4 x 5 and some larger negatives which I have been doing off & on for a while now. And the scanners do great jobs with other stuff as well. I had many such negatives also. I bought a scanner with the ability to scan negatives and than had them printed out. Easy, cheap and wonderful to save. -----Original Message----- From: Kari Farnell Sent: Tuesday, July 23, 2013 1:25 PM To: LOWER-DELMARVA-ROOTS@rootsweb.com Subject: [LDR] Old Picture Negatives Is anyone aware of a way or a place that will put old negatives onto a CD? As in some other times and States (or just Counties), the 1810 enumeration for Sussex Co., DE included added data. Here the three columns after the one for Slaves were: Number of Looms Linnen Manufactured in Yards Woolen Manufactured in Yards If you browse through the enumeration you can find a few folios which give the entire column headers. The one I have a copy of has another word or abbreviation before the word "in" but I have not been able to make it out. Hello, I am also a descentant of Jedediah through his son Littleton. He and his children lived in the Berlin area, owned land there and some of the family were members of St. Martin's Parish. Jedediah was born in Worcester County so they had to have come to Maryland before his Birth?? I tried tracing land records - based on the land (assuming tradition still held and the eldest received largest share) , I thought possibly his father was Thomas Gray (SR.?) Thomas Gray Sr sold largest portion of land to Jedediah, and smaller portions to a Joshua(brother, uncle??) and to his son Thomas Jr. Word down through the family has been that there was a Thomas in every generation. I have Jedediah and Eleanor's will as well as Rouse. Littleton died in Ohio but all 4 children were born in Worcester Co, Maryland I am from Indiana and have traced my Gray line back to MD and Jedediah. What documents do you have for Joshua and Levina of Delaware? as parent of Jedediah? Trying to determine if same person ( though have not found many JEdediah's in MD around that time. Will help all I can but need more info from you. My direct email is barbaracutter@comcast.net and I only check email twice a week so reply asap today - will not be able to respond until next week :-)) Barbara ----- Original Message ----- iirvin Wilkinson" <iwilk33@yahoo.com> To: "LDR" <LOWER-DELMARVA-ROOTS@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 12, 2013 11:55:59 AM Subject: [LDR] Jedidiah Gray Hi! Hi Irvin- Do you have any info on Levina Bailey's parents or siblings? My great grandfather was James Bailey, who lived in Columbia, DE, near the MD line/Sharptown. He had a brother, Joseph, who lived in Sharptown, another brother, Jonathan Edward, in Delmar, Letitia Bailey Phillips, of Columbia, Pattie Bailey Calloway, of Mardela/Athol, Rachel Bailey Bounds, of Sharptown, and Margaret Bailey Beach, of ??. Their parents were Josiah Bailey and Margaret K Weatherly. Josiah and Margaret raised their family in the Barren Creek District of Somerset County, and I suspect it was in the area between Athol/Mardela and Columbia, DE. I don't know anything about the family before that, but in the area there were seldom more than one related group for each surname. Please let me know if this is of any help to you, or if you can tell me anything. Thanks for your quick response. I double checked my records and cannot list Lavina's parents. One person is saying the parents are John P Bailey, but he was born and died in Chester, Pa. (Good source to prove that). His supposed wife was Lavina West (1795-1860). She was born and died in Delaware. My names are wrong and I have to go back and review my tree. Thanks for bringing this up. I would never have caught that mistake. Please let me know if you find the parents. Irv Wilkinson
