The James Harris in my family was born in UK and had a son named Richard Sherventon Harris. Has anyone run across a Richard Harris born about 1751. This Richard supposedly attended the Christmas Conference in Baltimore but I cannot find his name listed in any of those records. Thanks for the interest. There is another James Harris mentioned in this book. He would be the son of John. It is hard to follow but I think this James would be the uncle of the first mentioned James. It shows that a James married Sarah Dorman on March 2, 1749 and the following children: Mary (1751), March (1753), Leah (1756), James (1760) In a message dated 1/7/2014 7:30:28 A.M. Ack. Yes. The woman is a mystery, and I did not bother to check the surname. The reason it is a mystery is that she and Richard got their marriage licenses the same day as Hudson Lowe Mills and Elizabeth Gosley, and one of the many Jonathan Hearns was bondsman for both. Susan died young (probably childbirth), and Richard married second a Martha Ann (Patsy) Mills, possibly a sister of Hudson. I will never, ever untangle these people! I think Elizabeth (d/o Levin Gosley and Nelly Jones) may have been first cousin to this Richard. Sorry for the error! Elizabeth In a message dated 1/5/2014 8:13:53 P.M. The great, great grandmother I mentioned, Theresa Nichols, also is buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery, but so are a lot of Ellises, as was her husband, Joseph Ellis. In the Delmar/Laurel area the Ellis family is as frequently encountered as the Wallers, Hearn(e)s, Hastings (I could go on), so they can be found in just about every cemetery. I had previously in error mentioned Theresa Nichols as my great grandmother. By the way, she also was the great grandmother of Laurel's Dr. Wilbur Pierce Ellis, who died in 2012. -----Original Message----- From: lower-delmarva-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:lower-delmarva-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Chuck Swift Sent: Saturday, January 04, 2014 10:09 AM To: lower-delmarva-roots@rootsweb.com Subject: [LDR] Nichols-Mt. Anne- Could you tell me/us more about where Mt. Zion & your Waller ancestors were from? I am curious for several reasons, principally because Waller is the dominant ancestral thread among my antecedents. This is a little unusual because I have to go back to my great grandmother to find the most recent one, but I have Wallers marrying multiple times among 3/4 of my grandparents' families. Most of my grandparents' families came from the area between Mardela Springs, MD, Sharptown, MD, Delmar, DE & Laurel, DE, but I can't think of a Mt. Zion ME church in that area. As to the Nichols family, I have a great grandmother who was Theresa Nichols (1823 - 1903). Until this summer I couldn't find out anything about her ancestors and, in fact, still do not know with certainty. I did meet, however, Rob Nichols via Ancestry.com, who told me that his family of Nichols came from the Portsville, DE/ Bethel, DE area and that there are many still living in those towns & surroundings. He went on to tell me that an older member of his family told him that their "family homestead" was just outside of Sharptown, barely in Delaware (the area is known locally as Ellis Grove). This led to my supposition that my Theresa Nichols was a sister to the Nichols patriarch, Jonathan A Nichols (1829 - 1905). She married Joseph H Ellis, who lived within 1 - 2 miles of the Nichols homestead, and they raised their family in that community, as well. While the relationship is not certain, the fact that they were born within two years of each other at a time when the population of the area was not so great is enough for me to use this as a working assumption. So... I realize that my Nichols story isn't likely to be relevant to yours, but I thought the additional info about the Nichols family in the area might be useful. Please don't forget to tell me about Mt. Zion & your Wallers. Anne--Greetings! Though my Nichol ancestor left Dorchester Co. for central NC sometime after 1769, he left behind lots of cousins who had added the "s" to the family name. All of them, including my ancestor, were descended from John Nichol(l)(s), b. circa 1636, d. 1706 Dorchester Co. Many of the Nichols descendants stayed in the area; the best rundown of who they are is in RootsWeb, here: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=tessirasged&id=I52918 --In spite of the difference in spelling, I know they're all my cousins because the male-line DNA of living descendants matches that of my line in every case. In RootsWeb, if you click on the "Index" tab, you will find a Mary A. Nichols b. about 1866--might this be your Mary?
