    1. Re: [LDR] Sothey KING legal matter.
    2. Have you tried the Public Finding Aids section of the Delaware Archives? They have quite a bit, and even if the original documents are not published you can order whatever appears to be helpful. I find them a lot more helpful than Maryland. 1. Re: [LDR] Sothey KING legal matter.
    2. Good luck with it all. Judy was correct that the complete document should make it all clearer, and you might also wish to check the will or Orphans Court records for the minor children and how they acquired this debt. It is faintly possible that Mr. King was guardian, and the debt arose out of his handling of the estate. He might even have been their stepfather (it would not have been the first time). Reading every original document you can find really opens a lot of windows on the people and what they were doing. It also shows that we are all our own cousins. 2. It appears that Mr. King owed a debt to the minors, and Mr Wingate paid it in exchange for a piece of property. If you can find the Orphans Court records, they might explain the nature of the debt (might have been originally owed to their father, and they inherited it). 3. Val, I think I might know who your John Harris is.  There is a John Harris, son of George Harris (c1770-1846), who left a will in which he indicates son John living in Rising Sun, Indiana.  I had estimated this John Harris as being born about 1810 with nothing really on which to base it other than the other siblings, so the time frame is right.  You can find George Harris' will in JP5:127.  This family lived in the Mt. Vernon area of Somerset County. Then there is a Sally Ann Davis b. c1803 to Thomas Davis who m. (lic) Som 9 Feb 1802 Sally Marshall.  This could be your Sally Marshall Davis.  Bears looking into, anyway.
