    1. [LDR] receiving linked in invites
    2. I am getting a number of linked in invites from a delmarva list member - I don't know how this is happening as I don't have a linked account. I think this could be a phishing scam. Elizabeth Smith make sure you are the one initiating these emails and haven't been hacked.

    1. [LDR] THE BUTLERS FROM WORCESTOR COUNTY, MARYLAND
    2. HI ALL, HAVE WE CRASHED AGAIN? IS ANYONE WORKING ON THE BUTLERS. THEY WERE IN WORCESTER COUNTY IN THE EARLY 1800’S AND PART OF THEM INCLUDING LEVIN BUTLER MOVED OVER AROUND HARMONY AND AMERICAN CORNERS IN THE EASTERN SHORE ON MARYLAND.? THOMAS HENRY WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AMERICAN INDIAN BUT THE CENSUS DOESN’T SHOW IT. THIS IS MY EXHUSBANDS FAMILY AND I’MM LOOKING FOR MY DAUGHTERS.

    2. I think Linked In is doing it all on its own. They even invited me to link with myself. I cannot figure out how to stop it. Any ideas? Elizabeth In a message dated 6/30/2014 2:40:05 P.M. 3. For anyone interested in reading a little of the technical side of the recent problems that Ancestry.com had with their servers, which affected us on the Rootsweb lists as well, there is a good article now online. This article explains (part of) what happened, and what Ancestry.com seems to have done about it. http://www.eweek.com/security/ancestry.com-is-latest-victim-of-ddos-attack-whos-next.html Liz J On 27 June 2014 12:47, Elaine Sunde <elaine@sunde3.com> wrote: > Received 11:47 Central time > > -----Original Message----- > From: ARHGenealogy@aol.com > Sent: Friday, June 27, 2014 10:42 AM > To: lower-delmarva-roots@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [LDR] My list observations > > > Boy are there problems. 3. Findagrave, which Ancestry.com also acquired a couple of years or so ago, was also down. This came back online around midday 2 days ago, and now seems to be functioning normally. Same for the Genforum message boards. Posts to their lists are accessible again, as of about 2 days ago. Interestingly, FamilySearch never went down. Also run by the LDs, but this is a non-profit, and must have entirely separate servers. May this resource never fail. 3. See below from FTM Admin: Admin To FTM Tech List Today at 10:19 PM About a week ago, Ancestry.com experienced a Denial of Service attack.   This impacted all Ancestry.com servers.  I'm sure that many of you have  seen the evidence of this.  Ancestry.com began working to restore  service.  As far as I can tell their priorities were: 1. Restore online service for their subscribers to the Ancestry.com     online data bases.  I believe that took 2 to 3 days. 2. Restore links and service between FTM and the Ancestry.com online     data bases.  As near as I can tell that was accomplished about 4-5     days ago. 3. Restore links and service between FTMM and the Ancestry.com online     data bases.  This seems to have been accomplished yesterday. 4. 2. HI, I CALLED ANCESTRY.COM WHEN MY FTM2012 WOULDN'T WORK AND IT WOULDN'T TAKE MY LOGIN. THEY EXPLAINED ABOUT THE VIRUS SO AT LEAST I KNEW IT WASN'T MY PASSWORD. I WAS SO FRUSTRATED WHEN I DIDN'T HAVE IT OR THE LDR. I THINK I SUFFERED GENEALOGY WITHDRAWEL. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT FTM 2012 WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS ANYMORE SO I HAVE TO GO INTO ANCESTRY.COM TO SEE THEM. THATS A NUISENCE BUT THEY SAID IF I USED 2014 FTM I COULD SEE THEM. I BOUGHT IT AS SOON AS IT CAME OUT BUT MY SISTER IN TEXAS SAID IT WAS FULL OF PROBLEMS SO I HAVEN'T INSTALLED IT YET. ANCESTRY SAID THE NEW DISCS HAVE NO PROBLEMS BUT IF YOU HAVE THE ORIGINAL 2014 CALL THEM AND THEY WILL SEND DIRECTIONS ON MANUALLY DOWNLOADING 3 PATCHES TO FIX MY VERSION. DON'T AUTOMATICALLY DOWNLOAD THE PATCHES. AT LEAST I AM SO GLAD TO HAVE YOU ALL BACK. It was down for over three days, and I couldn't even work on my family tree as it is FTM and is connected directly to Ancestry. It appears to be back up and running now. They didn't put anything on their website about it either. So perhaps the stupid hackers are now putting their time into genealogy! 3. I am surprised that I finally heard from someone else about the disappearance of the lower-delmarva-roots@rootsweb.com web-site. Vera and Laura, have you noticed that all of your past mail from this web-site has also disappeared from your computer memory. Someone has been in there to delete it all. In my case the messages would be of interest to only me. We are supposed to have a right to privacy to other things within our own computers but we do not at this site. Where is the leader of this web site and why have we not heard from him/her?
