Jedediah Gray is in my direct line as well, through his daughter Anna (Gray) Fookes. I do not have parents for him but have one slim 'clue' that I haven't had a chance yet to pursue. On 17 June 1775, Jedediah was one of the beneficiaries from the will of a Joseph Gray, Jr. whom I haven't identified. There are a number of beneficiaries, among them Jedediah and Jesse Gray. The fact that they are among several men named in the probate documents suggests that these may be settlements of debt and not a certain indicator of kinship. However, this is early in Jedediah's life and might be helpful in tracking his origins through 'some" link to Joseph Jr. and/or the named Jesse. Reference for this probate is: V.L. Skinner, Jr., compiler, Abstracts of the Administration Accounts of the Prerogative Court of Maryland, Libers 67-74, 1771-1777 (Westminster, Md.: Willow Bend Books, 1999), 184. I do have some additional information re: his property and military service if you need it. I'd surely appreciate anything you might locate on this rather illusive ancestor of ours! Hi, Jim, I do have a few Nutters in my line. I have an Annie M. Nutter, born about 1850, who married Elisha A. Milman in 1870. Is this the Annie Matilda you have mentioned? I have her having a brother, John, also, but I have John A. Some of my Nutters married into the Smith family, and that is the main family I am researching, but they all lived around Bridgeville/Cedar Creek area. Ruth Dryden's book Cemetery Records of Somerset County Maryland has a Thomas Stevenson born 5 June 1835 died 20 Dec 1889. This is my great great grandfather. The death date however is wrong and I am wondering if there was mistranscription of the tombstone. He is buried at the churchyard in Quindocqua (Dryden says St. pauls and Trinity ME Church) I believe at the methodist church cemetary. Thomas Stevenson with wife Arintha is in the 1900 census and in the 1910 census he is also listed but as a widower (name is marked Taro not Thomas) Stevenson, age 74 (so born ca 1835-6). Thomas Stevenson's will is now available at the familysearch.org and it shows that it was written in 1914 and the inventory was filed that same year. Thomas Stevenson left to daughters Mary Lizzie Stevenson, Anna Louella Stevenson Horsey (my great grandmother) and to Ira E. Stevenson his son. Any help with the exact death date on the tombstone would be helpful. I don't know why it is recorded by Dryden as 20 Dec 1889. Thanks in advance. Liz

Hello all, I am Terry Littleton, the admin of the LITTLETON@rootsweb.com newsgroup and I know there are lots of Littletons, Truitts, Lewis's, Townsends, etc in this area of MD and I have family trees for many of them BUT this particular family eludes my research. I recently came across some letters that were exchanged between members of the Lewis and Littleton families. It mentions several Lewis family members and and Littleton neighbors and I am hoping by putting parts of those letters on here, maybe someone will recognize the family group and let me know where they lived and their lineage. I am researching a James Littleton b abt 1805 in MD and married to a Martha Lewis b 1804 in MD. It appears they moved to Ohio (can't find where) about 1831-1836 then on to Louisa Co, IA abt 1841. By the time these letters were written (spelling is as transcribed from original letters) , James Littleton and Martha were in Louisa Co, IA and it appears these letters were from Worchester Co, MD. I have a letter written march 22 1858 that starts out "dear son" and it says 'my son candul (might be Kendal as James Littleton named a son Kendal) lewis has been dead five yars and my son giley m. lewis dead about three years, joh lewis and peter lewis is living, thomas littleton family are all dead but minas littleton and robiert lewiss and his waife and sosme of his chilren are dead but old aunt lovey truitt is still living and the old man john littleton is living. "your loving mother until death all from your mother salley lewis and family to james littleton and family" (This leads me to assume Salley Lewis was writing to her step-son, James Littleton who married her daughter Martha Lewis??). Another letter dated 22 march 1858 starts "worschester county state of maryland, dear grandson etc......... I remain your loving grandmother until death all from salley lewis to george littleton" Signature is March 22 day 1858 Zadock L. Lewis (George Littleton was a son of James Littleton and Martha Lewis so I assume this letter was written to him by Martha Lewis's mother, Salley Lewis who I am guessing was married to Zadock L Lewis, her father??). A third letter reads "dear brother, I have bin married 6 years but hant had no children yet. I marrid littleton truitts oldis dughter. I lives now whare my father livid. etc. I remain yur loving brother until death all from Zadock L. Lewis and family to james littleton and family" (This also seems to show that Zadock L Lewis was writing to his son-in-law James Littleton. There is NO date on this letter so I don't know if this means that his assumed wife Salley who wrote the above 2 letters had died and he remarried, OR if Salley was this new wife who was a daughter of Littleton Truitt.) I'm guessing Salley had died and he remarried a Truitt daughter. Any help on figuring out this family would be greatly appreciated. I cannot figure out who the parents of this James Littleton are and I haven't found records of his childrens births in MD or OH. Below is what I have pieced together on his family. Elizabeth, Thanks so very much for the help. I found in a book that Robert Russell's father George Russell received a Virginia State Revolutionary War Pension. But that is all it said. Would you happen to know where I can find the dates and info regarding the Pension. George d. before Nov. 26, 1782, His will was proven in Accomack Co. George's wife was Sarah Bonwell. TIA. Clare I am a member of the SAR. How can I help you w/your Robert Russell info? There should be an application on file for SAR Member # 57040. If it is not available online, usually you can simply order one from the National Hqrtrs in Cincinnati, OH. www.sar.org I am glad to see what is available through my member access. But I do know that even members have to pay to have a copy of an application sent to them. At present both the SAR and the DAR use similarly professional guidelines to verify the source info on all applications. Many yrs ago both organizations had a much more lax attitude abt who and how people connected their ancestor lines. Therefore SOME of the older applications (in both the SAR & the DAR) will require extra effort and documentation to meet today’s standards. However, to say that the DAR will not accept any SAR application is a misconstruel of the facts. Richard Baer
I already checked the GRS, and I don't see anything. They are also not shown in Nottingham, except as heirs at law. Elizabeth In a message dated 10/19/2012 1:12:34 P.M. I have been told that the SAR applications are on line. DAR will not accept SAR applications, but the information on the SAR application should give you directions, in which to look for your documentation. Also contact a local DAR Chapter where you live, google DAR.org do not click on the members but on one that suits what you are looking for. Each DAR Chapter has a Registrar who will help you with your application. You must get into DAR through a Chapter and their Registrar. Inquire through your local DAR Chapter about becoming a member.
