With a much anticipated break coming, I'm going to delve deeper into my Chandler line which now has cropped up in Worcester County, MD in the late 1700's and into at least 1800 when Custis Chandler, his wife Nancy and an alleged sister to Nancy who was named as Lydia Rodde (numerous variations on the spelling of both the first and last name of Lydia) sold 50 acres in Maryland that was located on St. Martins Neck for 40 dollars. I hope to figure who the father of the two daughters were as I presume they inherited the 50 acres from their father, or perhaps a doting uncle. It would be nice to nail down another one of these women that married into our Chandler line. >From thence it will be off to get a better handle on William and Ursula >Chandler, the parents of Custis and a heretofore unknown Chandler, Solomon, >son of William and Ursula. The odd thing is that there were Chandler men with the name of William and Solomon in Accomack County, VA, but the timing is way off. I find no Chandlers with a William that would fit in with this particular group. And then there is the whole DNA thing that sorta, maybe fits us in with the Accomack County Chandlers. I WILL figure out these Chandlers! In the meantime, I'll enjoy a cup of hot cocoa, homemade cookies and Christmas carols on these cold nights. Teresa A. ..... from cold and windy Central IL [visiting from TN] this holiday season to everyone on this wonderful List! While I haven't been "active" on the List for a while [as I've been procrastinating writing up my pile of research --- not near as much fun as the discovery phase :) ] , I continue to enjoy reading the great research tips and information posted by List users on a regular basis. This List has been invaluable over the years...gotta be one of the better such ones out there. Cree Newbold PS -- Just wondering...did John Lyon ever publish his amazing land record research in any form anywhere? Last I remember from a few years ago , he was "close" to completing his research on Maryland sourced records for the area of "Old Somerset County" through it's changes up to around the late 18th Century. But I do n't recall ever seeing any mention that he had published the fruits of his labors in any form. Thanks specifically to him answering some of my questions on this List and elsewhere some years ago, he enabled me to figure out where my Newbold ancestor's land owership was in Somerset and Sussex Counties, and more specifically, how to find and understand what was available in the record to do this. As I said...just wondering.......

You may well find that your biggest problem is spelling. Jarman is often seen as German, and Trador is Trader (in Accomack it was originally Armitrader). Sometimes I can only find people I know are there by searching first names only with a general year of birth (the census has them wrong often also) and location. It is very tedious, but it works (eventually). If you are using Ancestry, try the Soundex option and use the old search - the new one will give you people in the wrong places and of the wrong age by the millions. The new Ancestry search is usable *if* you use the advanced search form and tick "Match all terms exactly" (even when searching by Soundex, Phonetic, etc.). If this box (located in the upper left corner of the form) is not ticked, Ancestry generates far too many "matches" for the results to be useful. ANYWAY, I SURE WISH I COULD HAVE HELPED WITH YOUR CHANDLERS. DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER SURNAMES? NORAH HASTINGS COLLINS -----Original Message----- From: tarantulac@aol.com Sent: Thursday, December 20, 2012 6:59 PM To: lower-delmarva-roots@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [LDR] Chandler family in Worcester County, MD Merry Christmas Listers! Teresa A. I need help. So many of you sound like you have many families in your trees. I have a brick wall and cannot seem to get past it. John Henry Jarman was born in 1884 in Delaware. He is listed with his family in the 1900 census in Indian River, Sussex, Delaware. Parents: William Henry Jarman and Eleanor Trador I have limited information about him, but have virtually nothing about his parents or grandparents. I hope that someone can help me break through this brick wall. Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!Nancy
I am in the process of downloading the land records books for Somerset County for my own private use. I have noticed references in the old index books to certain libers that I cannot find online. Just wondering if anyone knows if any of these exist in the MSA: L 14 1690-1702 GI 13 1702-1705 MA 3 1678-1688 SC 9 1671-1673 AC 25 1715-1716 EF 5 1716-1719 There may be others I have not "found" but this is a start.
