    3. Sally, The people at the MD Archives are very helpful and gladly assist researchers who are new to the Archives and its systems of files, books, films, etc. However, you should have some specific ideas ahead of time about what types of information you are looking for (e.g., Wills, birth/death certificates, land/court records etc.). As a result of continuing budget cuts, their staff has been reduced and are overworked. Therefore, they have eliminated most or all of the direct assistance they used to provide over the phone or in reply to letters. I get to the Archives about once a year and still find the people on the floor to be very friendly and very helpful. But, make sure you check their hours of operation. Last time I checked, they were closed on Sun, Mon and Tues as well as some Saturdays. 2. Before you go, do a little research on the town of Savage. I believe it is in Howard County. The MD historical society has a nice library downtown Baltimore. Also in the city is the city archives and the Enoch Pratt library. The best luck I have had at the Enoch Pratt is their great collection of old newspapers on microfilm. I'd check online for their holdings too. Then, in the Baltimore Sun about 1909- 1911 there was a series of Sunday articles on MD genealogy. I don't know how factual they are but a great starting point if you find a name you need. The Baltimore County historical society is open on Sundays, I think-- also worth a try if you know what county you need to look at. I think it is in the Cockeysville area north of Towson. In Annapolis there is the Hall of Records, now know as the MD State Archives, and across from that is the MD law library. Anne Arundel County has a genealogy library that may be useful too. Don't forget the Admiral Nimitz library at the Naval academy if you find any military background in your family's history. You must park in downtown Annapolis and walk onto the academy grounds now, due to security concerns, but not a long walk. There used to be a genealogy collection k/a the Peabody Library. I do not know where they took the great volumes in that collection- but it would be worthwhile to try and find out. The hotels near Baltimore-Washington INternational might be rather centrally located for you, unless you find out a specific county. Annapolis has lots of nice places to stay-- just pick your favorite chain or try a waterfront downtown Annapolis place. IF the Naval Academy has a big event, rooms there will be booked, if not expensive! Have fun-- great seafood at the restaurants, as well as some good Italian restaurants in Little Italy in the harbor area downtown Baltimore. 3. The Anderson Parker discussed was a descendant of John Parker and Amy Anderson both of Accomack County, Virginia. Anderson Parker born ca. 1672 in Accomack County, Virginia died on 16 March 1760 wrote his will 9 May 1759 proved 25 Mar 1760 married: 1st ca. 1702 to Margaret Robins born ca. 1679 died ca. 1730, daughter of Arthur Robins. Relocated to Sussex County, Pennsylvania (now Delaware). 2nd before Dec 1731 to Sarah Burton, relict of Robert Prettyman and daughter of Robert Burton. Anderson inherited 385 acres of land near Bloxum Bridge (tract A-135) from his father. In 1707 Anderson sold this land to Robert Brymer. Anderson relocated to Sussex County, Pennsylvania (now Delaware). At a Court 6 May 1703, Rachel Price aged 13 years, daughter of Thomas Price deceased and Elizabeth now married to Anderson Parker's brother Matthew was in open court by her own desire and consent put out to Anderson Parker and his wife, Margaret to live, dwell and serve until she becomes 18 and they are to teach her to knit, spin and sew and other housewifery work. Anderson Parker and his wife Margaret brought an action against Mr. Francis Makemie and his wife Naomy (executors of the estate of Mr. Edmund Custis, deceased). They declared that Custis, in his Will, bequeathed to Margaret Robins (now the wife of Anderson) three cows and calves. Since Makemie admitted that the legacy was in an article of the Will, the court ordered that Makemie and his wife immediately deliver the cows and calves along with the cost of the suit. On 8 June 1703 the order was carried out and the cows & calves were delivered. 3. Ellen, Can you please give me directions to this Parker cemetery? Is it a church or public cemetery? I am trying to find the grave of my Dad's grandfather and I know he does not have a marker so I would need to talk with someone about the records... His name is Oscar Lee Parker and he was born in Greenwood, De. in 1885 and died in 1947. His father, Charles W. is from Pittsville and his maternal grandmother, Leah A. Holland is from Maryland, but is buried in Odd Fellows in Laurel, De. She married William F. Gordy and their daughter Annie is Oscar's mother... The funeral home in Greenwood said they have lost some of their records...but that he was send to Laurel, De.?? I am not sure how they can know that without some records? I have not been able to locate him in either of the Laurel Cemeteries and I spoke with both the directors of Laurel Hill and Odd Fellow cemeteries. Is there possibly another smaller one in Laurel? Thanks for any help! Gwen -------------- Original message -------------- From: "ellen scott" <middletongirl@webtv.net> > Jim, Where did he live. 3. Lorine, I'm a tad bit slow on the draw right now as I have gotten away from doing genealogy every second - and look where it's gotten me - I was again looking through the names you have been researching in the LDR region and my tree also has some of the same names: PARKER, PARSONS, DENNIS, TURNER, SMITH, JONES, JENKINS, JOHNSON & PURNELL. All of these names connect in some way to my John Smith (yep) family. John and Amelia Trader were the grandparents of my great grandfather, Wm. E. (Tinner) Smith. John is the son of Marvel Smith. Marvel was one of the sons of Charlton Smith and Ann Marvel. If you'd like to correspond about these names, please contact me at joni@mcburney.ca. Good luck in your search!
